{"id":1067561,"date":"2022-04-26T14:34:06","date_gmt":"2022-04-26T14:34:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/26\/review-dismissed-posterity-will-judge-us-justice-abdulai-speaks-after-supreme-court-ruling-politics\/"},"modified":"2022-04-26T14:34:06","modified_gmt":"2022-04-26T14:34:06","slug":"review-dismissed-posterity-will-judge-us-justice-abdulai-speaks-after-supreme-court-ruling-politics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/26\/review-dismissed-posterity-will-judge-us-justice-abdulai-speaks-after-supreme-court-ruling-politics\/","title":{"rendered":"Review Dismissed: Posterity Will Judge Us&#8230;.. \u2013 Justice Abdulai Speaks After Supreme Court Ruling | Politics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Private legal practitioner Justice Abdulai has reacted to the Supreme Court&#8217;s review of its earlier ruling on Deputy Speakers.<\/p>\n<p>It may be recalled that on March 9, 2022, the SC ruled that a Deputy Speaker even when presiding over parliamentary proceedings reserves the right to vote and can be counted as part of a quorum for decision making.<\/p>\n<p>Not satisfied, Justice Abdulai filed a new application praying the court to review its initial ruling insisting there was a miscarriage of justice.<\/p>\n<p>However, on Tuesday, April 26, a nine-member review panel of the apex court\u00a0presided over by Justice Jones Dotse ruled that the Deputy Speaker of Parliament&#8217;s participation in voting was constitutional.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>The application is accordingly dismissed<\/em>,\u201d Justice Dotse said.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to journalists after the dismissal of his application,\u00a0Justice Abdulai\u00a0said: \u201c<em>I think we have to move on as a nation. What I didn\u2019t want was the situation where posterity will question us as to why we didn\u2019t take this small window of opportunity that was available to us for a possible review of the decision of the Supreme Court&#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Adding <em>\u201cI think posterity will judge our call in the positive light that we did everything we ought to have done to get the sort of judgement that we needed but this is what the Supreme Court says and we all have to live by that.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile,\u00a0Deputy Attorney General, Diana Asonaba Dapaah has welcomed the ruling.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the media she said: \u201c<em>The Supreme Court ruled that the application by Justice Abdulai is unmeritorious.
