{"id":1064311,"date":"2022-04-22T22:27:01","date_gmt":"2022-04-22T22:27:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/22\/egg-prices-to-go-up-by-30\/"},"modified":"2022-04-22T22:27:01","modified_gmt":"2022-04-22T22:27:01","slug":"egg-prices-to-go-up-by-30","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/22\/egg-prices-to-go-up-by-30\/","title":{"rendered":"Egg prices to go up by 30%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\">\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/1650666421_812_Egg-696x392.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"Eggs\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">File photo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"300\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"no\" allow=\"autoplay\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/tracks\/1254901288&#038;color=%23ff5500&#038;auto_play=false&#038;hide_related=false&#038;show_comments=true&#038;show_user=true&#038;show_reposts=false&#038;show_teaser=true&#038;visual=true\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The Ghana National Association of Poultry Farmers has announced that prices of eggs on the market will go up after Muslims finish marking the Ramadan month.<\/p>\n<p>Eggs will see a 30 per cent increase for the small sizes and a 28 per cent increase for the unsorted, the Association said.<\/p>\n<p>The leadership of the Association says the small sizes will go up from \u00a223 to \u00a230 per crate, while the unsorted will increase from \u00a225 to \u00a232 per crate.<\/p>\n<p>This means that a single unit of an egg at retail that now sells at \u00a21.50 could also see some upward adjustment.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/22191989129,1002554\/MGL\/mgl_ado_atunwa_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p>National Chairman, Victor Oppong Adjei, says the farmers are compelled to adjust the prices because the high cost of feed severely impacts their operations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026new upward adjustment of egg prices effective immediately after the Ramadan, this has resulted from the high cost of feed that is now disturbing the operations of the poultry farmers.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/NEW-EGG-PRICES-970x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"Egg Prices to go up by 30% after Ramadan \u2013 Poultry Farmers Association\" class=\"wp-image-10032069657\" title=\"Egg Prices to go up by 30% after Ramadan \u2013 Poultry Farmers Association\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>They observed in 2020, Maize prices have gone from 65 cedis for 50 kilos to now \u00a2180, Soya Bean, which was \u00a2150 per kilo, is now 305 cedis per kilo, and Wheat Brand, which was sold for \u00a220, is now \u00a253.<\/p>\n<p>The development follows a JoyNews documentary titled, \u2018The Broken Chain\u2019, which exposed how the poultry industry and players in the Soya Value Chain are struggling due to continuous hikes in feed prices.<\/p>\n<p>All these critical ingredients of the poultry industry\u2019s feed component have increased by more than 200 per cent over a short period.<\/p>\n<p>They observed that most of their members are either selling the majority of their birds to be able to stay in business or are switching completely.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Oppong Adjei says the move is necessitated to help sustain the dying poultry industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPoultry industry is all about the feed \u2013 maize, soya and wheat brand \u2013 if any one of these is not available, there will be no feed, and there will be no poultry.
