{"id":1063016,"date":"2022-04-21T14:22:30","date_gmt":"2022-04-21T14:22:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/21\/gfa-suspends-referee-over-controversial-penalty-against-hearts\/"},"modified":"2022-04-21T14:22:30","modified_gmt":"2022-04-21T14:22:30","slug":"gfa-suspends-referee-over-controversial-penalty-against-hearts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/21\/gfa-suspends-referee-over-controversial-penalty-against-hearts\/","title":{"rendered":"GFA suspends referee over controversial penalty against Hearts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"418\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/image_2022-04-21_124916722-696x418.png\"   alt=\"\" title=\"\"\/><\/div>\n<p>The Ghana Football Association (GFA) match review panel has suspended referee Kenny Padi for the rest of the season after awarding a controversial decision in a league game between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>This comes exactly a week after Hearts filed a protest against\u00a0referee\u00a0Kenney Padi for what they described as \u201cunprofessional conduct\u201d during the Super Clash with arch rivals. <\/p>\n<p>In an official statement, the panel said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf there was pushing as claimed by the referee, we did not see any movement of the arm from the back to forward.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/22191989129,1002554\/MGL\/mgl_ado_atunwa_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMeaning no hand movement and no pulling movement from front to back. The attacker was already throwing himself down in a completely strange way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf there was pulling or pushing as claimed by the referee, the attacker should have fallen on the face and not with his back as seen in the video.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The video also showed quite a number of inconsistencies in his decisions during his officiating of the match, especially after the penalty incident. The referee lost concentration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Panel concluded that, per the video watched, the referee\u2019s defense is in contrast.<\/p>\n<p>Per the video watched the panel holds the view that the referee erred in awarding the penalty. This error changed the outcome of the match.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, the referee, Joseph Kenny Padi, is suspended for the rest of the season.
