{"id":1062935,"date":"2022-04-21T13:02:45","date_gmt":"2022-04-21T13:02:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/21\/momo-operators-laud-minoritys-injunction-application-against-e-levy-implementation\/"},"modified":"2022-04-21T13:02:45","modified_gmt":"2022-04-21T13:02:45","slug":"momo-operators-laud-minoritys-injunction-application-against-e-levy-implementation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/21\/momo-operators-laud-minoritys-injunction-application-against-e-levy-implementation\/","title":{"rendered":"MoMo operators laud Minority&#8217;s injunction application against E-Levy implementation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Mobile Money Agents Association of Ghana has lauded the move by the Minority in Parliament, to have an injunction placed on the implementation of the controversial electronic transfer levy.<\/p>\n<p>The levy, which was amended from 1.75% to 1.50%, is a tax on electronic transactions, which includes mobile-money payments, was passed on March 29, 2022, in the absence of the Minority MPs, who staged a walkout.<\/p>\n<p>The Minority in Parliament on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, filed an injunction application at the Supreme Court in Accra against the implementation of the levy, which was supposed to take effect in May 2022, pending the final determination of their main case against the approval of the policy by the Majority side of Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>In a <strong>Citi News <\/strong>interview, Secretary of the Mobile Money Agents Association of Ghana, Theophilus Totimea, said they want the court to rule in favour of the Minority MPs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGovernment went ahead to push for the implementation of the E-Levy, despite our resistance. We are glad that at least, with Minority\u2019s move for an injunction on its implementation, it will be put on hold for now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are hoping that the Minority will be firm in its movement so that we don\u2019t have to pay the levy. Although it has not been implemented yet, our business has started feeling the heat.
