– –<\/span> These pupils are playing games with them.<\/p>\n According to University Public Relations Officer Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe, some students have spent their money in betting, purchasing automobiles for online ride-hailing services, and baking.<\/p>\n \u201cThe problem we have now is that a number of students are playing games with the University. For example, they use their school fees to buy cars for Uber, others are using it to set up bakeries, and others are also using it for betting, and we have evidence.\u201d<\/p>\n – –<\/span> \u201cSome parents have even sent us audio where students have received the fees but have refused to pay or simply trading with the money.\u201d<\/p>\n Dr. Bekoe revealed this in an interview with Emefa Apawu on Joy FM\u2019s Midday News on Wednesday.<\/p>\n – –<\/span> The KNUST had previously announced that students who owed more than 70% of school fees before April 7 would be automatically postponed. The warning did not go into effect at the time.<\/p>\n Sources say students were permitted to take the mid-semester examinations on April 11. Students with unpaid debts were forced to delay their studies.<\/p>\n However, after the matter was reported, numerous Ghanaians have voiced opposing views. But Dr. Bekoe claimed the University is taking the correct steps.<\/p>\n \u201cApply the fees policy this year, which has been authorized by the academic board,\u201d he said, adding that \u201cas an undergraduate student, you must register for your courses at the beginning of the semester and pay 70%.\u201d<\/p>\n It has now \u201cgiven a window from February through March and April\u201d for students with arrears, he added.<\/p>\n – –<\/span> – – The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has revealed why nearly 6,000 students have been asked to defer their courses.
