{"id":1060653,"date":"2022-04-19T13:09:23","date_gmt":"2022-04-19T13:09:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/19\/ndc-can-win-2024-elections-but-not-with-mahama-eiu\/"},"modified":"2022-04-19T13:09:23","modified_gmt":"2022-04-19T13:09:23","slug":"ndc-can-win-2024-elections-but-not-with-mahama-eiu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/19\/ndc-can-win-2024-elections-but-not-with-mahama-eiu\/","title":{"rendered":"NDC can win 2024 elections but not with Mahama \u2013 EIU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"497\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/head-of-eu-delegation-to-ghana-amb-irchad-razaaly-calls-on-john-mahama_51846112474_o-696x497.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"head-of-eu-delegation-to-ghana-amb-irchad-razaaly-calls-on-john-mahama_51846112474_o\"\/><\/div>\n<p>The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has tipped the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the party with a higher probability to secure victory in the next general election. <\/p>\n<p>But the organisation highlighted one condition based on which this prospect can be achieved.<\/p>\n<p>This was made known in the EIU\u2019s five-year forecast for Ghana released on April 13, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>According to the London-based analysts, their assessment shows that the opposition party will have to part ways with its leader, 2020 flagbearer John Dramani Mahama.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/22191989129,1002554\/MGL\/mgl_ado_atunwa_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p>The former President has led the NDC into two unsuccessful election campaigns in 2016 and 2020. <\/p>\n<p>As President Nana Akufo-Addo concludes his final term in 2024, the opposition is expected to face off with whoever the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) will put forward as its new leader.<\/p>\n<p>In the wake of numerous challenges plaguing the government  unemployment, an economic downturn, and corruption among others, EIU believes these developments will fuel citizens\u2019 sentiments against the ruling NPP administration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur baseline forecast is that ongoing public dissatisfaction with the slow pace of improvements in governance\u2014such as infrastructure development, job creation and easing of corruption\u2014will trigger anti-incumbency factors and push the electorate to seek a change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They believe this situation will tilt the balance in the NDC\u2019s favour. <\/p>\n<p>But from their findings, the international economic and political research consultancy group indicated that \u201cJohn Mahama, is reportedly considering running again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In their latest report, the agency expects the \u201cNDC to try to revitalise its prospects with a fresh candidate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>EIU has, in the past, rightly predicted correctly the outcomes of Ghana\u2019s elections in 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020.<\/p>\n<p>            <!--  [embed]https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=videoseries[\/embed]<!--\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>--><\/p>\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"YGqUa0PNhBw\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Discussing High Cholesterol - Badwam Afisem on Adom TV (19-4-22)\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YGqUa0PNhBw?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has tipped the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the party with a higher probability to secure victory in the next general election.
