Former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan has openly said that personal attacks from people sometimes get to him.<\/p>\n
The 36-year-old has come under the spotlight several times despite his services to the country.<\/p>\n
He is famously remembered for dominating the headlines for the wrong reasons after missing a\u00a0penalty against Uruguay in the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup.<\/p>\n
That penalty miss eventually prevented the Black Stars from becoming the first African team to reach the last four of the World Cup.<\/p>\n
Gyan in an interview said although criticisms are part of the game, he\u2019s human and doesn\u2019t deserve to be subjected to insults.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m human. Sometimes, it would get to you. Sometimes too, you\u2019d be strong. In this world, nobody has to like you. That is why we keep on pushing,\u201d\u00a0Gyan told Accra-based\u00a0Joy FM.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou can criticize me. Why not? This is the job I chose to do, and I\u2019m for the people. When you criticize me with facts, then we go. Sometimes, people attack you personally. It\u2019s like a personal thing. That is where I don\u2019t get it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAt the end of the day, football, we\u2019re for the people. Asamoah Gyan scores today; he\u2019s the best player in the world. He misses tomorrow; he\u2019s the worst player. It all comes with the territory.\u201d<\/p>\n
Gyan remains the country’s all-time leading goalscorer with 51 goals. He also played in the 2006, 2010, and 2014 World Cups in Germany, South Africa, and Brazil.<\/p>\n
