{"id":1060029,"date":"2022-04-18T21:05:35","date_gmt":"2022-04-18T21:05:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/18\/ndc-can-win-2024-elections-but-not-with-mahama-eiu-politics\/"},"modified":"2022-04-18T21:05:35","modified_gmt":"2022-04-18T21:05:35","slug":"ndc-can-win-2024-elections-but-not-with-mahama-eiu-politics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/18\/ndc-can-win-2024-elections-but-not-with-mahama-eiu-politics\/","title":{"rendered":"NDC Can Win 2024 Elections But Not With Mahama \u2013 EIU | Politics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has tipped the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the party with a higher probability to secure victory in the next general elections.<\/p>\n<p>But the organisation highlighted one condition based on which this prospect can materialised.<\/p>\n<p>This was made known in the EIU\u2019s five-year forecast for Ghana released on April 13, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>According to the London-based analysts, their assessment shows that the opposition party will have to part ways with its leader, 2020 flagbearer John Dramani Mahama.<\/p>\n<p>The former President has led the NDC into 2 unsuccessful election campaigns in 2016 and 2020.<\/p>\n<p>As President Akufo-Addo concludes his final term in 2024, the opposition is expected to face off with whoever the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) will put forward as its new leader.<\/p>\n<p>In the wake of numerous challenges plaguing the government  unemployment, an economic downturn, and corruption among others, EIU believes these developments will fuel citizens\u2019 sentiments against the ruling NPP administration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur baseline forecast is that ongoing public dissatisfaction with the slow pace of improvements in governance\u2014such as infrastructure development, job creation and easing of corruption\u2014will trigger anti-incumbency factors and push the electorate to seek a change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They believe this situation will tilt the balance in the NDC\u2019s favour.<\/p>\n<p>But from their findings, the international economic and political research consultancy group indicated that \u201cJohn Mahama, is reportedly considering running again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In their latest report, the agency expects the \u201cNDC to try to revitalise its prospects with a fresh candidate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>EIU has, in the past, rightly predicted correctly the outcomes of Ghana\u2019s elections in 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020.<\/p>\n<h3><strong\/><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"peace_black_text_4\">Source: myjoyonline.com<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<table width=\"100%\" border=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" style=\"clear:both\">\n<tr>\n<td><span class=\"peace_red_text_1\">Disclaimer<\/span>: <span class=\"peace_ash_text_1\">Opinions expressed here are those of the writers and do not reflect those of Peacefmonline.com.
