As you may know, Courtney Stodden and Doug Hutchison infamously wed back in 2011 when Courtney was 16 and the actor was 51.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n The ceremony took place in Nevada, where state law permits children to marry with parental consent, which Courtney received from their mother.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Following almost a decade of public scrutiny, Courtney filed for divorce in 2018 and became legally single two years later. In recent months, Courtney has been reflecting on the marriage while writing their memoir, and speaking out about the \u201cabuse\u201d and \u201cgrooming\u201d they experienced while in it.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n According to Courtney, writing their memoir has helped them, process what really happened in their marriage. \u201cA lot of different chapters in my life have been challenging to live through once and then to kind of go back and relive it again in order to tell the story is extra challenging,\u201d Courtney explained to Fox News Digital. \u201cBut it also gives me a better insight.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n For Courtney, writing their memoir has \u201cmade [them] very fearless\u201d and \u201cshined a light on the grooming and what happened to [them] and what actually happens to a lot of other children in the USA as well.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n \u201cI\u2019m working with a therapist right now to kind of process it all too as I\u2019m writing it out and reliving it again,\u201d they said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s freeing. It\u2019s definitely given me a better outlook on it. I see it for what it is.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n \u201cIf it didn\u2019t happen, I feel like my whole outlook on life would be so different,\u201d Courtney said. \u201cExperiences that are traumatizing can either break us or we can utilize them to shape us into a stronger individual.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n \u201cAnd that\u2019s really one of the main reasons why I\u2019m speaking out is because I want past victims and survivors to really tap into that part of themselves. We are so strong.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n Courtney previously described Doug as a \u201cpredator\u201d and \u201cgroomer\u201d during an appearance on the Call Her Daddy<\/i> podcast last month. \u201cHe was extremely emotionally abusive,\u201d they said.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/h2>\n \u201cI think that\u2019s the ultimate power a groomer has over a child.
