Making its return after a 2-year hiatus, thousands of festival lovers attended the Corona Sunsets Festival the past weekend at the Oval Field in Clifton. Upon arrival, guests were welcomed by a reminiscent feel of what a festival was pre-Covid 19.<\/p>\n
As the crowd chased the sunset, Gina Jeanz kicked off the festival with an infectious sound that set the tone for artists such as Sun-El Musician and Msaki to grace the crowd with the acoustic version of their hit, \u201cUbomi\u201d. German DJs and producers such as Claptone, Grammy-nominated Elderbrook and \u201csuper house\u201d DJ Andhim got the crowd pumping while Goodluck and Bantwanas kept the crowd entertained.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
South Africa\u2019s Grammy Award winner for best Electronic Dance Album for \u201cSubconsciously\u201d, Black Coffee brought his inimitable Afro-centric dance style to the occasion as the ultimate summer season closer. In an emotional moment at the event, a fan emerged from the crowd to present the DJ-producer with a hand-made replica of a Grammy. It was \u201chis way,\u201d he said, \u201cof showing appreciation as a young artist.\u201d<\/p>\n
Zakes Bantwini closed off the show with his smash hit, \u201cOsama\u201d and it felt like pre-Covid all over again.<\/p>\n
Guests enjoyed the fruity taste of either the sunrise or sunset cocktail, personally, I stuck to the classic taste of Corona with a slice of lime of course. The festival also included craft food vendors with a variety of delicious food to select from.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
As for the fashion, guests pulled out all the stops sporting tribal tattoos, and see-through 2-piece mesh pieces \u2013 just like something you would see straight out of a Coachella inspired Instagram post.<\/p>\n \u201cOverall, the vibe was very energetic, it was nice attending a festival again, and enjoying music around other people,\u201d said Jennifer Schwaighofer.<\/p>\n While Covid-19 protocols were executed in an orderly manner, the approach of the Uber voucher was also a brilliant idea to ensure that guests were not drinking and driving.
