{"id":1058647,"date":"2022-04-17T10:18:25","date_gmt":"2022-04-17T10:18:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/17\/kiambu-uda-lineup-senator-wamatangi-to-run-for-governor\/"},"modified":"2022-04-17T10:18:25","modified_gmt":"2022-04-17T10:18:25","slug":"kiambu-uda-lineup-senator-wamatangi-to-run-for-governor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/17\/kiambu-uda-lineup-senator-wamatangi-to-run-for-governor\/","title":{"rendered":"Kiambu UDA lineup: Senator Wamatangi to run for Governor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<figure class=\"image\"><figcaption class=\"bg-light mb-3 p-3 row mx-md-0\"><strong>Senator Kimani Wamatangi and DP William Ruto moments after joining UDA at a rally in Thika Stadium.<\/strong> [File, Stadium]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"card-text\">Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi is set to fly the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket for the county\u2019s top job in the upcoming August 9 General Elections.\n<\/p>\n<p>Wamatangi, a former ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta, won the ticket weeks after decamping from the ruling Jubilee party to UDA alongside William Kabogo and Moses Kuria.\n<\/p>\n<p>According to the final tallies communicated on Sunday morning, the lawmaker won the party primaries with 86,020 votes. <\/p>\n<p>His competitor, Wainaina Patrick Kimani came a distant second with 57,568 votes as ousted Governor Ferdinand Waititu who had plans of getting his seat back followed distantly with only 15,117 votes.\n<\/p>\n<p>In the quest for the ticket, Mungai Erick Muturi came fourth with less than 5, 000 votes (3,666).<\/p>\n<p><h4 class=\"read\"><span>KEEP READING<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/p>\n<p>Wamatangi will now face off Azimio la Umoja\u2019s candidate and incumbent governor James Nyoro alongside other independent candidates who have also shown interest in Kiambu\u2019s top job.\n<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/O7ZA84JUN7QrrW1T20xGL85bBXe7feUwCycRa7ep.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"500\"><figcaption class=\"bg-light mb-3 p-3 row mx-md-0\"><strong>Incumbent Kiambu Woman Representative Gathoni Wamuchomba.<\/strong> [File, Standard]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In the Woman Representative seat, Muratha Anne Wanjiku will now be the UDA candidate for the seat after trouncing her two competitors Loise Kim and Wainaina Emma Wangari.\n<\/p>\n<p>Anne Wanjiku got 83,257 votes against her close competitor, Loise Kim, who got 15, 613 votes less. She got 67, 644 votes. <\/p>\n<p>Emma Wainaina came a distant third with 10, 395 votes only.\n<\/p>\n<p>The incumbent Woman Representative will now run for Githunguri Constituency MP on a UDA ticket as Simon King\u2019ara is also set to run for Ruiru Constituency seat on the same ticket after defeating Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura.\n<\/p>\n<p>Other UDA candidates in Kiambu are Waithaka John Machua (Kiambu MP), Kahangara joseph (Lari MP), Chege John Kiragu (Limuru MP), &nbsp;Ndungu George Koimburi (Juja MP) and &nbsp;Njenja Francis Kigo (Gatundu North).\n<\/p>\n<p>The party has not announced its candidate for senate and the Gatundu South constituency was presumably left for one of its allies, Moses Kuria.\n<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Additional Reporting by Gitau Wanyoike<\/strong><\/em> <\/p>\n<p>\n<b class=\"m-2\">Share this story<\/b>\n<\/p>\n<p><h4 class=\"read\"><span>RELATED VIDEOS<\/span><\/h4><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Senator Kimani Wamatangi and DP William Ruto moments after joining UDA at a rally in Thika Stadium.
