Ghanaians cannot forgive Uruguayan footballer Luis Su\u00e1rez after 10 years when he denied the national team – Black Stars – from qualifying to the Semi\u00a0Finals of the South Africa 2010 World Cup.<\/p>\n
The match between Ghana and Uruguay was an intense one as both teams were eagerly bent on moving to the next stage, however, the Black Stars overpowered the Uruguayan team nearly scoring a goal to win the match but for a handball committed by Luis Su\u00e1rez which prevented the ball from entering the opponent’s net.<\/p>\n
Su\u00e1rez was sent off and Ghana was awarded a penalty kick but lost when Black Stars’ striker Asamoah Gyan kicked the ball against the bar resulting in penalties after extra time and subsequently a win for Uruguay who went into the Semi Finals.<\/p>\n
Ghanaians, in the year 2022,\u00a0still remembers this nightmare.<\/p>\n
However, it appears this year’s World Cup to be hosted by Qatar will give Ghana an opportunity to take\u00a0a sound revenge on Uruguay as both teams are in the same group.<\/p>\n
In view of this new opportunity, Asamoah Gyan, in an interview on\u00a0Peace FM’s\u00a0<\/strong>morning show ‘Kokrokoo’ on Monday, April 11 to announce the launch of his book, was asked what he would wish to do to Su\u00e1rez should they meet in Qatar.<\/p>\n In response, the\u00a0former Sunderland man said he will do nothing to him, explaining although he was extremely pained by his (Su\u00e1rez) action; he however understands why he prevented the goal with his hand.<\/p>\n Asamoah Gyan\u00a0emphasized that,\u00a0“what happened in 2010, he did it to save his country. If that hadn’t happened, they wouldn’t have gone through too. We had the opportunity, we blew it away but he had to do what he had to do to keep the team in the tournament”.<\/em> <\/p>\n He added; ”I always say if I were in his shoes, I would also do exactly what he did to save my country. Sometimes, people feel it’s a cheat but he had to do everything to save the country.”<\/em><\/p>\n
