{"id":1052249,"date":"2022-04-11T06:28:28","date_gmt":"2022-04-11T06:28:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/11\/govt-will-still-struggle-to-meet-2022-revenue-target-despite-e-levy-passage-seth-terkper\/"},"modified":"2022-04-11T06:28:28","modified_gmt":"2022-04-11T06:28:28","slug":"govt-will-still-struggle-to-meet-2022-revenue-target-despite-e-levy-passage-seth-terkper","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/11\/govt-will-still-struggle-to-meet-2022-revenue-target-despite-e-levy-passage-seth-terkper\/","title":{"rendered":"Gov\u2019t will still struggle to meet 2022 revenue target despite E-Levy passage \u2013 Seth Terkper"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Former Finance Minister, Seth Terkper has expressed doubt over government\u2019s ability to meet the revenue target of GH\u00a2 100 billion, despite the approval of the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-levy) law.<\/p>\n<p>The implementation of the E-levy, which is expected to commence in May 2022, was originally expected to help bring in about GH\u00a26.9 billion this year to shore up government\u2019s revenue.<\/p>\n<p>The total projected revenue for 2022 of a GH\u00a2100 billion, represents a 39% increase over the revised revenue target of GH\u00a272 billion in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <strong><\/strong>, Mr. Terkper noted that the target for this year is too ambitious.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe estimate for 2021 was GH\u00a272 billion. When the 2022 budget was presented, it changed to GH\u00a2 70 billion. The Bank of Ghana\u2019s MPC report suggests that the revenue the country could generate in 2021 was GH\u00a267 billion. If it is GH\u00a267 then we have fallen short of the original target by about GH\u00a2 5 billion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo the question that comes up is if all that the GRA could bring is G\u00a2 67 billion in 2021, and we are expecting to collect about GH\u00a230 billion more that represents about half of what GRA brought in last year.
