{"id":1050954,"date":"2022-04-09T18:34:30","date_gmt":"2022-04-09T18:34:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/09\/implementation-of-e-levy-gra-serves-notice-economy\/"},"modified":"2022-04-09T18:34:30","modified_gmt":"2022-04-09T18:34:30","slug":"implementation-of-e-levy-gra-serves-notice-economy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/09\/implementation-of-e-levy-gra-serves-notice-economy\/","title":{"rendered":"Implementation of E-Levy: GRA Serves Notice | Economy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has served notice that following the passage of the Electronic Transfer Act 2022 (Act 1075), the authority will begin the implementation of the levy on 1 May 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The 1.50% levy will be charged on electronic transfers at the time of transfers.<\/p>\n<p>Transactions E-Levy will cover:<br \/>Mobile money transfers between accounts on the same electronic money issuer (EMI)<br \/>Mobile money transfers from an account on one EMI to a recipient on another EMI<br \/>Transfers from bank accounts to mobile money accounts<br \/>Transfer from mobile money accounts to bank accounts<br \/>Bank transfers on a digital platform or application which originate from a bank account belonging to an individual to another individual<\/p>\n<p><em>The \u201cpoor\u201d are not part of E-Levy<\/em><br \/>The Information Minister,\u00a0Kojo Oppong Nkrumah\u00a0has said that the \u201cpoor\u201d have been exempted from the\u00a0Electronic Transaction Levy\u00a0due to the threshold of less than GHC100.<\/p>\n<p>Also, he debunked claims that the Levy will kill the Mobile Money [Momo] industry.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, although the same comments were made during the introduction of the\u00a0Communications Service Tax, the telecom industry has thrived ever since.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday (29 March), the Ofoase Ayirebi Member of Parliament said, \u201cThere is a claim that has been made that it will kill the MoMo industry so don\u2019t tax MoMo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis same claim was made when the\u00a0Communications Service Tax\u00a0was being introduced, it has never killed the industry.
