{"id":1049457,"date":"2022-04-08T12:36:50","date_gmt":"2022-04-08T12:36:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/08\/bawumias-speech-on-the-economy-is-an-anticlimax-terkper-economy\/"},"modified":"2022-04-08T12:36:50","modified_gmt":"2022-04-08T12:36:50","slug":"bawumias-speech-on-the-economy-is-an-anticlimax-terkper-economy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/08\/bawumias-speech-on-the-economy-is-an-anticlimax-terkper-economy\/","title":{"rendered":"Bawumia\u2019s Speech On The Economy Is An Anticlimax &#8211; Terkper | Economy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Seth Terkper, a former minister for finance under the Mahama administration, has said the country expected more from the vice-president\u2019s address on the economy on Thursday (7 April).<\/p>\n<p>Terkper said Dr Bawumia\u2019s presentation at the\u00a0TESCON\u00a0event was an anticlimax.<\/p>\n<p>He said the habit of talking about cost \u201cwithout talking about the nuisance taxes that should have gone [which is the sacrifice that Ghanaians are making] is unfair to the people of Ghana because ESLA levies have been increased twice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Asaase Radio Friday (8 April 2022), the former finance minister said, \u201cI\u2019m saying that we\u2019re missing the opportunity to attend to the next crisis through the stabilization as a result of the arithmetic if you like the financial engineering that is currently taking place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that for the first time, \u201cWe have seen less bullishness. The Finance Minister has acknowledged that the country is going through a crisis. The president has also acknowledged that we\u2019re going through a crisis; we heard that from the vice-president but as the head of the economic management team, he was to give us more than even the finance minister or the president\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we had the single spine, the abrupt gas shortage from Nigeria which gave us the power crisis; when we had all of those things, my boss [President Mahama] acknowledged it and I went to Parliament to tell the country what we were going to do with it under his [Mahama\u2019s] direction so that was what we expected,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo if the vice-president was mounting the stage, for heaven\u2019s sake [for five years] of managing the economy, you go back to 2016 to do comparisons?
