{"id":1042186,"date":"2022-04-01T20:02:24","date_gmt":"2022-04-01T20:02:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/01\/akonnor-and-milo-credited-for-black-stars-world-cup-qualification\/"},"modified":"2022-04-01T20:02:24","modified_gmt":"2022-04-01T20:02:24","slug":"akonnor-and-milo-credited-for-black-stars-world-cup-qualification","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/04\/01\/akonnor-and-milo-credited-for-black-stars-world-cup-qualification\/","title":{"rendered":"Akonnor and Milo credited for Black Stars World Cup qualification"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\">\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"464\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/WhatsApp-Image-2021-08-17-at-13.15.41-696x464.jpeg\"   alt=\"CK Akonnor\" title=\"CK Akonnor\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">CK Akonnor<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo, has credited CK Akonnor and Milovan Rajevac following Ghana\u2019s qualification for the 2022 World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>Addo, who is a talent coach at Borussia Dortmund,\u00a0was appointed as interim head coach after Rajevac was fired in January after Black Stars\u2019 poor performance at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON].<\/p>\n<p>The Serbian trainer was named as the successor of Akonnor\u00a0in September 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Akonnor, who is a former Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak coach,\u00a0took charge of two World Cup qualifiers before leaving his post, a 1-0 win over Ethiopia and a 1-0 loss in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/22191989129,1002554\/MGL\/mgl_ado_atunwa_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p>Rajevac was in charge of the remaining four group games, winning three of them, a doubleheader against Zimbabwe and a crucial final match against South Africa, and drawing one, in Ethiopia.<\/p>\n<p>However, Addo took charge of the playoff qualifiers against Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Having guided Ghana to the tournament in Qatar, Addo was quick to praise the work of both Rajevac and Akonnor to help the Stars reach the playoffs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ ALSO<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Addressing the players and staff in the dressing room after the game against the Super Eagles on Tuesday night, Otto Addo also acknowledged the players who featured in the group stages but couldn\u2019t make the squad for the playoffs including the captain of the side, Andre Ayew.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the end, it\u2019s a player\u2019s game. In the end, it\u2019s you guys, you did it. It\u2019s not only you, we shouldn\u2019t forget the coaches who made the path to this stage, Milo [Rajevac], Charles Akonnor and the players who couldn\u2019t come today, starting with captain Andre Ayew, who scored a lot of goals helping us to be where we were. This for me was just two games but the rest did a lot of work and I want to thank the players who are not here; Baba Rahman, Kamaldeen, and all the players who couldn\u2019t be here because of injury,\u201d\u00a0he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot least the team here, you did well. The players not on the bench, the players on the bench supporting us all the way. The staff, I love you all, you did well. Also to those who had to be subbed. It was just a systematic change. I\u2019m very happy today, I\u2019m very happy today, very happy to be here.
