{"id":1033412,"date":"2022-03-24T20:05:09","date_gmt":"2022-03-24T20:05:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/03\/24\/chelsea-allowed-to-sell-tickets-again-as-uk-government-revises-its-special-license\/"},"modified":"2022-03-24T20:05:09","modified_gmt":"2022-03-24T20:05:09","slug":"chelsea-allowed-to-sell-tickets-again-as-uk-government-revises-its-special-license","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/03\/24\/chelsea-allowed-to-sell-tickets-again-as-uk-government-revises-its-special-license\/","title":{"rendered":"Chelsea allowed to sell tickets again as UK government revises its special license"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\">\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"391\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/stamford-bridge-exterior-755x424-Copy-696x391.jpg\"   alt=\"Chelsea are allowed to sell some tickets again after the UK government amended the special license handed to the club after the sanctioning of owner Roman Abramovich.\" title=\"Chelsea are allowed to sell some tickets again after the UK government amended the special license handed to the club after the sanctioning of owner Roman Abramovich.\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chelsea are allowed to sell some tickets again after the UK government amended the special license handed to the club after the sanctioning of owner Roman Abramovich.<br \/>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Chelsea FC\u00a0will be allowed to sell tickets to away games, cup matches and fixtures involving the women\u2019s team after the UK government made alterations to the club\u2019s special license.<\/p>\n<p>Due to UK\u00a0sanctions\u00a0placed on Russian oligarch and Chelsea club owner\u00a0Roman Abramovich\u00a0for his alleged ties with Vladimir Putin following Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine, the Blues had previously been unable to sell any tickets or merchandise.<\/p>\n<p>Under the new license, proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to the Premier League, rather than Chelsea, and then be distributed to relevant parties \u2013 either the Premier League or charities.<\/p>\n<p>Away fans can now buy tickets for Premier League games at Stamford Bridge, with the revenue going to the Premier League<\/p>\n<p>These changes will also allow away fans to attend knock-out fixtures, including Chelsea\u2019s home\u00a0Champions League quarterfinal\u00a0first leg against Real Madrid on April 6 and the FA Cup semifinal against Crystal Palace at Wembley Stadium on Easter weekend.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Roman-abramovich-2.jpg\" alt=\"Chelsea allowed to sell tickets again as UK government revises its special license\" class=\"wp-image-10032049472\" title=\"Chelsea allowed to sell tickets again as UK government revises its special license\"\/><figcaption>Roman Abramovich led the club to 21 trophies as owner.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Home tickets, meanwhile, are still subject to sanctions with only season-ticket holders or those who purchased tickets before the introduction of sanctions able to attend matches.<\/p>\n<p>Chelsea have requested that any money generated by ticket sales, which the club would have usually received, be donated to victims of the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe revised licence allows fans to attend Chelsea FC games; Chelsea fans to travel to away Premier League fixtures and Chelsea fans to attend the FA Cup, UEFA Champions League and WSL games,\u201d a Premier League spokesperson said in a statement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Premier League will receive and hold any revenue from the sale of these tickets that would normally have gone to Chelsea. Chelsea FC have requested and the Premier League agreed that this revenue will be donated to charity to benefit victims of the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe beneficiary charities will be announced in due course after consultation with the club.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In response to the new license, The Chelsea Supporters\u2019 Trust released a statement, urgently seeking \u201cclarification from the DCMS &amp; Chelsea FC on why CFC members will not be able to purchase tickets to home Premier League fixtures at Stamford Bridge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sanctions were not brought in to punish supporters,\u201d the statement continued, \u201cthis decision is illogical &amp; unfounded.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chelsea\u2019s future is currently the source of much uncertainty since Abramovich announced that he would be selling the club, just days after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Multiple bidders\u00a0have expressed their interest, and the Raine Group \u2013 a US bank handling the sale of the club \u2013 is expected to announce a shortlist by the end of the week.
