{"id":1029159,"date":"2022-03-21T11:17:45","date_gmt":"2022-03-21T11:17:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/03\/21\/ghs-issues-alert-on-surge-in-measles-cases\/"},"modified":"2022-03-21T11:17:45","modified_gmt":"2022-03-21T11:17:45","slug":"ghs-issues-alert-on-surge-in-measles-cases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/03\/21\/ghs-issues-alert-on-surge-in-measles-cases\/","title":{"rendered":"GHS issues alert on surge in measles cases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"669\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/1637037618_131_Ghana-Health-Service-1-Copy-696x669.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"Ghana-Health-Service (1) (Copy)\"\/><\/div>\n<p>The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced a surge in suspected <strong>measles <\/strong>cases across the country. <\/p>\n<p>According to the GHS, the Greater Accra Region has recorded two confirmed cases of Measles and two confirmed cases of Rubella.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement issued by the Acting Director of Health Services at the Ga North, Dr Maame Yaa Nhyira Essel, the GHS outlined some actions it has put in place in response to the surge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll health facilities and municipal public health staff are to strengthen the detection of suspected cases across all levels of care\u201d while \u201croutine immunisation\u201d is \u201cto be strengthened to reach all eligible children with the Measles-Rubella vaccine\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/22191989129,1002554\/MGL\/mgl_ado_atunwa_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p>Also, \u201cmop-ups will be conducted to reach defaulters and all missed children\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, there will be \u201chealth education on early reporting to health facilities as well as the \u201cbenefits of immunisation\u201d, which the GHS said, \u201cshould be strengthened in all regions\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It also reminded the general public of the signs and symptoms of measles including: \u201cDry cough, runny nose, sore throat, inflamed eyes (conjunctivitis), Kokpliks spot and skin rash.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Symptoms of Rubella include: \u201cSore throat, fever, headache, swollen lymph nodes in the head or neck, conjunctivitis and a cough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>            <!--  [embed]https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=videoseries[\/embed]<!--\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>--><\/p>\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"jm4K-UHmPCU\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Electoral Coordinating Elections: Nkwanta South NPP supporters lock party office (18-3-22)\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jm4K-UHmPCU?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced a surge in suspected measles cases across the country.
