Ghana\u2019s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has asked the United Arab Emirates to tap into the opportunities presented by Ghana as host of the African Continental Free Trade Secretariat.<\/p>\n

In an engagement with the <\/span><\/span>Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign <\/span><\/span>Affairs and<\/span><\/span> International Cooperation of<\/span><\/span> the <\/span><\/span>United Arab <\/span><\/span>Emirates<\/span><\/span>, H.E. Sheikh Shakhbut Bin Nahyan Al Nahyan <\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>on the sidelines of the ongoing World Expo in Dubai, <\/span><\/span>Hon. <\/span><\/span>Shirley Ayorko<\/span><\/span>w Botchwey urged her colleague <\/span><\/span>to pay particular attention to Ghana as the Country is increasingly becoming the hub for economic integration on the African continent.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Hon. Minister outlined the enormous opportunities on the back of the African Free Trade pact. She further stressed that the world\u2019s largest Free Trade will connect almost 1.3 billion people across Africa with a market of 3. 4 trillion.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

T<\/span><\/span>he Minister was part of the<\/span><\/span> high ranking delegation that participated in the business and economic deliberations between Ghana and the UAE at the ongoing World Expo<\/span><\/span> 2020<\/span><\/span> in Dubai which led to the signing of five MoU\u2019s on various commercial and trade partnerships.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

On his part, the Emirati Foreign Minister also used the occasion to commend the West African Country for the peace and stability and assured the Minister tha<\/span><\/span>t his office will take<\/span><\/span> steps <\/span><\/span>to\u00a0implement<\/span><\/span> the<\/span><\/span> Visa waiver agreement related t<\/span><\/span>o diplomatic and service passport holders. The two sides also committed to engage their Government<\/span><\/span>s <\/span><\/span>to ensure ratification of the labour agreement as well as the investment protection agreement.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Ministers expressed interest in<\/span><\/span> promoting trade and investments <\/span><\/span>by their respective business operators. Hon. Ayorkor Botchwey commended the innovative Star<\/span><\/span>t Up programmes of the UAE and\u00a0called on her counterpart<\/span><\/span> to sup<\/span><\/span>port Youth Start Ups in Ghana to create employment for the teeming unemployed youth.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The two Ministers also discussed Cooperation in the field<\/span><\/span>s<\/span><\/span> of Agriculture and renewable energy, an area<\/span><\/span> the UAE is keen to invest in <\/span><\/span>Ghana<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Madam<\/span><\/span> Ayorkor Botchwey extended an invitation to the UAE to participate in the high level open debates Ghana would c<\/span><\/span>onvene during her Presidency at <\/span><\/span>the United Nations Security Council in November.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
