{"id":1024018,"date":"2022-03-17T06:35:08","date_gmt":"2022-03-17T06:35:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/03\/17\/ngozi-okonjo-iweala-receives-guba-yaa-asantewaa-award\/"},"modified":"2022-03-17T06:35:08","modified_gmt":"2022-03-17T06:35:08","slug":"ngozi-okonjo-iweala-receives-guba-yaa-asantewaa-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/03\/17\/ngozi-okonjo-iweala-receives-guba-yaa-asantewaa-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala receives GUBA Yaa Asantewaa Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Global development expert, sustainable finance connoisseur and current Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has been honoured by Grow Unite Build Africa (GUBA) with the \u2018Nana Yaa Asantewaa\u2019 Excellence Award at a brief ceremony in Switzerland.<\/p>\n<p>Being the first woman and first African to lead the WTO as Director-General, Okonjo-Iweala adds to a tall list of globally renowned female dignitaries and personalities who participated in the awards which was held in Accra on November 8, 2021, which she attended virtually.<\/p>\n<p>Receiving the awards in person at the WTO offices in Switzerland on March 11, 2022, H.E Okonjo-Iweala said, \u201cI am honored to have received the GUBA Achievement Award in the name of Nana Yaa Asantewaa, one of the fiercest women in African history who fought the British to a standstill in 1900\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>She commended GUBA for celebrating and recognising the contribution of Black women in the diaspora and Africa, to the growth and progress of continental Africa.<\/p>\n<p>H.E Okonjo-Iweala\u2019s participation in the event, according to GUBA, is a testament of how women in high positions at all levels of society are advocating and encouraging other women to rise to similar levels particularly in leadership.<\/p>\n<p>GUBA Enterprise\u2019s President and CEO, Dentaa Amoateng MBE at the presentation ceremony, said, \u201cI had the honour of personally meeting and presenting Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala with her Nana Yaa Asantewaa Award this week\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGUBA started as a dream and to meet Dr Ngozi was so significant. She exemplifies what it is to be a ground breaker, a world changer, and has demonstrated that there is no limit to what one can achieve. In the lead up to my birthday, I am motivated that this is just the beginning and anything is possible for women particularly Black women across the globe\u201d said, Dentaa Amoateng MBE.<\/p>\n<p>Quoting an inspiration from Dr. Okonjo-Iweala, Dentaa said; I leave you with this: \u201cIf you have a sense of purpose that drives you, then aim high and become a leader and make a room as you go\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the 2021 GUBA Nana Yaa Asantewaa Awards<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 2021 GUBA Excellence Awards was dedicated to celebrating a century of the transition of Yaa Asantewaa, who was Queen Mother of Ejisu.
