March 16 (UPI) \u2014<\/span> Starfield<\/i>\u2018s first companion character, a robot named VASCO, was revealed Wednesday during a new developer video.<\/p>\n In the nearly six-minute-long video, Bethesda Game Studios head Todd Howard said, \u201cNo matter what story we write, the one the players tell themselves is the one they think about and love the most \u2014 and the companions.\u201d\n<\/p>\n Viewers were then introduced to VASCO, a loader droid who greets players by saying, \u201cHello, captain. How may I be of assistance?\u201d<\/p>\n VASCO\u2019s name appears to be a nod to Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama, given that Bethesda is aiming for \u201cgrounded exploration\u201d in a more realistic universe. The studio previously described Starfield<\/i>\u2018s overall aesthetic<\/a> as \u201cNASA-Punk.\u201d<\/p>\n The developers also explained how companions have been improved in the highly anticipated role-playing game. Howard said a major focus was on \u201chow those other characters felt about you.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s probably my favorite part, like when you\u2019re exploring and then your companion makes some comment off the cuff about something that you\u2019re checking out or something that just happened,\u201d lead artist Istvan Pely responded. \u201cThat just feels so perfect for immersion. It\u2019s just so unbelievable, you think it\u2019s a real person.\u201d\n<\/p>\n In addition to companions and other non-playable characters, the latest \u201cInto the Starfield<\/i>\u201d episode introduced some of the game\u2019s factions and lots of concept art. The developers also discussed how they\u2019re repurposing a dialogue system used in The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion<\/i>.<\/p>\n The hugely anticipated RPG is set to arrive November 11 on Xbox Series X and S consoles and Microsoft Windows, and it will be Bethesda\u2019s first new intellectual property in more than two decades.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
