{"id":1019038,"date":"2022-03-12T01:06:59","date_gmt":"2022-03-12T01:06:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/03\/12\/only-45-per-cent-of-masloc-loans-paid-in-five-years\/"},"modified":"2022-03-12T01:06:59","modified_gmt":"2022-03-12T01:06:59","slug":"only-45-per-cent-of-masloc-loans-paid-in-five-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/03\/12\/only-45-per-cent-of-masloc-loans-paid-in-five-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Only 45 per cent of MASLOC loans paid in five years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"font-size: 17px;\">\n                                                   Bolgatanga, March 11, GNA &#8211; The Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) has recovered only GH\u20b590 million of the GH\u20b5204 million disbursed over the last five years, representing 45 per cent payment.<\/p>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/1.21431974.jpg\" width=\"100%\" height=\"\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" class=\"kMediaObject\"\/><\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah, the Chief Executive Officer of the Centre speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Bolgatanga on the sidelines of a stakeholder engagement on the loans, said the low recovery rate was bad and attributed it to a misconception that loans taken from the scheme were free.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">\u201cUsually, there is a misconception that monies taken from MASLOC is government\u2019s money and it is not supposed to be paid back and some people go to the extent of even saying once we are NPP and our government is in power, we don\u2019t have to pay MASLOC loans,\u201d she said.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">Hajia Zakariah, on a working visit to the Upper East Region, said the institution was determined to improve upon its recovery drive to sustain the scheme.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">She said several interventions including setting monthly targets for the various regional managers and sensitising the public to appreciate the need to repay the loans had been put in place.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">\u201cWe need to sustain the MASLOC. Our fund is a revolving fund and once monies are given out, they are supposed to be recovered, that is the only way we can see the organisation running in a sustainable way,\u201d she added.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">Hajia Zakariah disclosed that GH\u20b59 million cash was disbursed in the region and only GH\u20b52 million had been recovered, representing about 21 per cent.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">\u201cWe have other products, that is, high purchases including vehicles, which were given to the GPRTU in this region and the recovery is not good either,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">While encouraging the public to patronise the loans, which had 12 per cent interest, she encouraged defaulters to repay to help sustain the scheme to benefit more people to boost the local economy.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">The visit formed part of the CEO\u2019s nationwide tour to interact with major stakeholders in the region to strategise to improve performance, especially in loans recovery, to ensure sustainability.<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bolgatanga, March 11, GNA &#8211; The Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) has recovered only GH\u20b590 million of the GH\u20b5204 million disbursed over the last five years, representing 45 per cent payment.
