Scotland and Ukraine\u2019s World Cup play-off semi-final has been postponed.<\/p>\n
The nations were set to meet at Hampden on 24 March but Ukraine requested Fifa push back the tie following Russia\u2019s invasion of the country.<\/p>\n
As a result, the play-off final for the winners against either Wales or Austria on 29 March will now also be delayed.<\/p>\n
Discussions are under way for a new date, with the Nations League window in June the most likely option.<\/p>\n
The World Cup finals take place from 21 November to 18 December.<\/p>\n
What now for Scotland v Ukraine after delay confirmed?
A large contingent of Ukraine\u2019s recent squads has contained players from their homeland, with 15 out of the 23-man squad in November\u2019s World Cup qualifiers playing in their home leagues.<\/p>\n
Both sides are set to face each other in June on Nations League duty, with each side already scheduled to play four games during that break.<\/p>\n
Speaking last week, Scottish FA president Rod Petrie offered his Ukrainian counterpart support as the nations held talks with Fifa over moving this month\u2019s tie.<\/p>\n
\u201cFootball is inconsequential amid conflict,\u201d said Petrie.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut we have conveyed the strong sense of solidarity communicated to us by Scotland fans and citizens in recent days.<\/p>\n
\u201c[The SFA] have offered to support our Ukrainian colleagues\u2019 preparations as best we can in these unimaginably difficult circumstances.\u201d<\/p>\n
