{"id":1009677,"date":"2022-03-03T14:11:09","date_gmt":"2022-03-03T14:11:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/03\/03\/brazil-players-arrive-home-after-ukraine-escape\/"},"modified":"2022-03-03T14:11:09","modified_gmt":"2022-03-03T14:11:09","slug":"brazil-players-arrive-home-after-ukraine-escape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/03\/03\/brazil-players-arrive-home-after-ukraine-escape\/","title":{"rendered":"Brazil Players Arrive Home&#8230; After Ukraine Escape"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Shakhtar Donetsk\u2019s Dodo pictured embracing a relative upon arriving in Brazil<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Brazilian players have arrived home after their ordeal to leave Kyiv, Ukraine, following Russia\u2019s invasion of the country.<\/p>\n<p>Thirteen Brazilian players from Shakhtar Donetsk, and Dynamo Kyiv striker, Vitinho, had sought refuge with their families in a hotel in Ukraine\u2019s capital last week and asked for help to leave the country.<\/p>\n<p>Among the Brazilian players to land in Sao Paulo with their families was Shakhtar defender, Maycon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt would not be possible to define these last days in a word,\u201d Maycon told reporters after landing at Sao Paulo\u2019s airport.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a mixture of feelings of terror, of fear. Then a feeling of relief, for being able to leave and with everyone well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maycon, accompanied by his wife, young child and parents, left Ukraine by land for Romania and eventually travelled to Frankfurt before flying to Brazil.<\/p>\n<p>The former Corinthians star, who has played in Ukraine since 2018, said of the invasion, \u201cIt took us a little by surprise. We knew about the risk, but we had a lot of information, and we didn\u2019t believe it would be like that. The biggest sadness was because I had a wife, son, father and mother with me and I didn\u2019t want them to go through that. But thank God we all left together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marlon Santos, who landed in Rio Janeiro with his wife and three children, thanked UEFA and the Ukraine Football Federation for helping them leave Kyiv to safety.<\/p>\n<p>Marlon is still coming to terms with what they experienced.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cThe feeling of terror and despair at every moment. We heard the noise of fighter jets, the noise of bombs\u2026 It was a horrible situation. But there were people that were willing to take risks, such as (Shakhtar\u2019s Brazilian striker) Junior Moraes, who managed to go after food, diapers for children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maycon and club teammate Dodo are under contract with Shakhtar until December 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Asked if he will return to Ukraine once the war is over, Maycon said, \u201cI still haven\u2019t stopped to think about it. I just thought about getting out of there. Ukraine is suffering a lot and I\u2019m really sad about that. We have great friends there; we are sorry for them and I hope that everything will be resolved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dodo added, \u201cI just got out of a war and it\u2019s not the time to think about football.
