The ANC\u2019s national working committee has decided to disband the Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga provincial executive committees.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Daily News was informed by a source that attended the meeting when the issue was being discussed. According to the source, the PECs of both provinces will be replaced by task teams which will be loaded with President Cyril Ramaphosa\u2019s supporters.<\/p>\n

The source said this was being done to prevent the direction in which leaders in the two provinces were moving, as this was seen as being against Ramaphosa. In the Eastern Cape, the source said, this was specifically done to try and save Premier Oscar Mabuyane. The premier of Eastern Cape is about to lose his position as a provincial chairperson of the ruling party.<\/p>\n

ANC general manager Febe Potgieter said the party\u2019s national spokesperson, Pule Mabe would communicate the decisions taken by the NWC meeting during the week. Mabuyane, who is also the ANC\u2019s Eastern Cape provincial chairperson, declined to comment on what he termed rumors.<\/p>\n

Mabuyane said it is the NWC\u2019s competence to take that decision, and the NWC will communicate its decisions. Attempts to get comments from the Mpumalanga PEC were unsuccessful. Provinces are preparing to hold their conferences and are expected to pronounce their choices of leaders to be elected during the party\u2019s 55th elective conference expected to take place in December.<\/p>\n

So far it is expected that Ramaphosa will be challenged by former health minister Dr. Zw.eli Mkhize, ad Tourism Minister Lindiwe Sisulu. Although the two have not publicly announced their campaigns, several media reports have revealed that their lobbyists were cross-crossing the country, speaking to branch and regional leaders.<\/p>\n

Though the decision is taken by the NWC, it\u2019s clear that Ramaphosa is fighting back with those who want him gone. When they officially announce the reasons behind their decision, the public will be deceived. Both PECs had no known crisis but the NWC has decided to disband them. Last week, Ramaphosa and his team were in Eastern Cape. <\/p>\n

According to them, they wanted to know why the province underperformed in the 2021 local government elections. The truth is that they were there to see how his ally is losing support from the branches, hence now they rescued him by disbanding the PEC. What can we say, Politics is a game of dog eat dog and the survival of the fittest.<\/p>\n
