Blade Nzimande, the minister of higher education, research, and technology, has condemned the burning of nine cars on the Indumiso campus of the Durban University of Technology on Monday morning (DUT).<\/p>\n

Nzimande characterized those responsible as \u201canarchists,\u201d \u201cselfish,\u201d and \u201cself-centered\u201d individuals who are only concerned with themselves. He urged law enforcement officials to \u201cleave no stone unturned\u201d in their efforts to bring the culprits \u201cto justice.\u201d<\/p>\n

The folks behind them are being deprived by these individuals. This self-centered mentality is severely condemned by me. \u201cI also urge on parents and others of the community to prevent such behavior,\u201d Nzimande added in his statement.<\/p>\n

Nzimande was speaking in the Harry Gwala hospital, where he had just gotten a booster shot from Pfizer Corporation. According to the minister, who serves on the national coronavirus command council, the vaccination location is \u201cexcellent.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI am quite pleased with the way things have been going at this location. \u201d \u201cEverything is running well,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Nzimande landed his initial blow at the same location.<\/p>\n

He urged members of the public, particularly those who were apprehensive about being vaccinated, to come forward and obtain their vaccination.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn order to overcome this virus, we must all be vaccinated. \u201cI\u2019m aware that there are a significant number of individuals who are not refusing to get vaccinated, but who have just not gotten around to having their vaccinations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Nzimande said that vaccines are not a new phenomena, as people used to get injections to protect themselves against illnesses such as polio in the past.<\/p>\n

\u201cVaccines have been scientifically shown to keep illnesses at bay,\u201d Nzimande said in an interview.<\/p>\n

While several institutions of higher education have expressed opposition to forced vaccinations, the minister\u2019s position comes at a time when there is still some resistance.<\/p>\n

When it comes to forced vaccines, he said that the department had allowed institutions the freedom to make judgments that were in their best interests at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe told the institutions to consult broadly enough so that they could get the broadest possible agreement,\u201d Nzimande added.<\/p>\n

His criticisms also included individuals who utilized the rationale of constitutional rights to explain their refusal to vaccinate their children.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no such thing as an absolute right. Those who have been vaccinated in order to safeguard their life, what do you think of those who have not been vaccinated for the same reason? According to Nzimande, \u201cpeople must not merely emphasize one side of the story.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr Elizabeth Mthembu, medical manager for the facility, said that they had seen a decrease in the number of persons who came to the site to get their medications.<\/p>\n

She ascribed this to a decrease in the number of Covid-19 infections throughout the nation.<\/p>\n

\u2018The bad mood on social media is also having an impact on our work,\u2019 says the author. \u201cHowever, we are hopeful that more individuals will come in,\u201d Mthembu added.<\/p>\n
