{"id":1000554,"date":"2022-02-22T21:56:45","date_gmt":"2022-02-22T21:56:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/02\/22\/entrepreneurship-key-to-ghanas-economic-growth-neip\/"},"modified":"2022-02-22T21:56:45","modified_gmt":"2022-02-22T21:56:45","slug":"entrepreneurship-key-to-ghanas-economic-growth-neip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/02\/22\/entrepreneurship-key-to-ghanas-economic-growth-neip\/","title":{"rendered":"Entrepreneurship key to Ghana\u2019s economic growth\u2014NEIP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"font-size: 17px;\">\n                                                   Accra, Feb. 22, GNA &#8211; Mr Enoch Abeiku Bart-Plange, Finance Officer, National Entrepreneurship, and Innovation Programme (NEIP), says entrepreneurs contribute significantly to the country\u2019s socio-economic development.<\/p>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/1.21416737.jpg\" width=\"100%\" height=\"\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" class=\"kMediaObject\"\/><\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">They served\u202fas the catalysts in the\u202fcountry\u2019s efforts and\u202fprocess of industrialisation and economic growth.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">Mr Bart-Plange was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on the side-lines of a stakeholder engagement organised by STAR-Ghana Foundation on the theme: \u201cSocial Enterprises in Ghana: Challenges and way forward in financing and creating an enabling environment.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">Among other objectives, the engagement sought to mobilise key stakeholders to explore opportunities for enhancing the effectiveness of social enterprises as a tool for civil society sustainability in Ghana.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">He said\u202fentrepreneurs were\u202fkey to the creation of new enterprises that energised\u202fthe economy\u202fby creating jobs for teeming unemployed youth.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">He said: \u201cThe ideology had always been that once you finish school, you should be employed by the government,\u201d saying, such orientation was not making the youth innovative and entrepreneurial.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">Mr Bart-Plange averred that the surest bet to cut down unemployment and ensure economic development was entrepreneurship, stressing that the more there were entrepreneurs in the country, the more unemployment was reduced to the barest minimum.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">However, he said, before entrepreneurship could thrive, the ecosystem must be enabled for the youth to do business on a sustained basis.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">\u201cThis includes tax exemptions, a less cumbersome business registration process hindrances to supporting small and medium enterprises,\u201d adding that all those barriers needed to be eliminated to make the ecosystem enabling enough to allow businesses to thrive. \u202f<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">The NEIP, he said, provided such an enabling environment for entrepreneurship to thrive and created an opportunity to ensure that individuals, who did not even have knowledge about entrepreneurship, were trained to be able to manage their businesses.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">\u201cKnowing that your business is viable for funding, some support is given to fund such young entrepreneurs,\u201d he stated.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">He said so far, under the NEIP Business Support Programme, some 45,000 entrepreneurs had been trained and 9,450 provided funds to grow their businesses.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">Speaking on the effective utilisation of the fund, he said even before the funds were provided, due diligence assessments were conducted to know beneficiaries, adding that the selection of the beneficiaries and businesses to be funded were done at the hubs \u2013 entrepreneurship experts who train beneficiaries.<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Accra, Feb. 22, GNA &#8211; Mr Enoch Abeiku Bart-Plange, Finance Officer, National Entrepreneurship, and Innovation Programme (NEIP), says entrepreneurs contribute significantly to the country\u2019s socio-economic development.
