Scott Conway scored twice for the Giants

The Belfast Giants hammered Fife Flyers 7-2 at the Fife Ice Arena to extend their winning run to seven matches.

It was the second time in three days that the Giants defeated the Scottish side in the Elite League, having beaten them 3-1 in Belfast on Thursday.

Scott Conway scored twice for the visitors, with Sam Ruopp, Gabe Bast, Ben Lake, Matt Foley and Lewis Hook also on target.

Seth Bafaro and Janne Kivilahti grabbed the goals for the hosts.

Strikes from Ruopp and Bast had Adam Keefe’s men 2-0 up after 11 minutes with Bafaro’s goal making it 2-1 to the visitors at the end of the first period.

Four unanswered Giants goals – a Conway double and goals from Lake and Foley – took the game away from the Flyers as they trailed 6-1 going into the final third, with Hook making it 7-1 before Kivilahti got a consolation.

The Giants are next in action on Wednesday when they host Nottingham Panthers in the first leg of their Challenge Cup quarter-final.

NPP deserves to break the 8 – Makafui Woanyah

0

The Volta Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has indicated his party has proven that it deserves another term in government, considering it’s performance within the last 6 years.

Makafui Woanyah said that regardless of the economic hardship experienced across the globe, due to a global health crisis and a wide-reaching war, the Akufo-Addo- led-government continues to deliver exceedingly, on its mandate.

He is of the strong conviction that the NPP has justified its call to “break the 8” and continue governing Ghana towards attaining development and economic growth.

He was speaking at a press soiree in Ho, attended by selected members of the inky fraternity and leadership of the NPP in the Volta Region.

“But in spite of the crisis, we have made great strides and continue to make progress as a country.  Contrary to what the opposition and critics would want us to believe, Ghana has moved on a great deal”, he stressed.

He said that the government continues to pay salaries of public sector workers, teacher and nursing trainee allowances, sustained the Free SHS, and provided educational infrastructure and completed abandoned projects, including that of the National Democratic Congress government.

He further listed the revival of the National Health Insurance Scheme, posting of nurses and teachers, expanding the housing, road and railway sectors as some major achievements of the Akufo-Addo-led-government.

Zeroing down to the Volta Region, Mr. Makafui Woanyah outlined the progress made on the Eastern Corridor Road, Sokode-Ho dual carriage road, UHAS campus inner roads, Sokode-UHAS-Titrinu bypass Road Project among others.

He said the government delivered all these and sustained its policies, programme, and social interventions without an International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout.

“This is the economy some propagandists want us to believe is in shambles. All these we have done without any support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) yet. Government is on top of governance”, he said.

La Vie Foundation Puts Smiles On The Faces Of Widows, Orphans In Obuasi | Social

0

Obuasi-based NGO, La Vie Foundation has organised a party for Persons living with Disability, Orphans, widows and residents of some deprived communities in Obuasi as a way of showing them affection in this festive season.

La vie Foundation is a non-profit organisation which focuses on empowering the needy, vulnerable and less privileged groups in society and also restoring hope to the hopeless.

Yvonne Adomako Asabre, the Executive Director of La vie foundation in an interview at the sidelines of the social gathering said the NGO since 2013 has been organising such events through their ‘ Hope Festival’ program to show love and care to vulnerable groups in Obuasi and beyond.

She said the NGO since its formation has reached out to deprived communities like Komfokrom in the Obuasi Municipality, where it supported school children to develop an interest in school. It also collaborated with Columbia Embassy and AGA to do a special lighting project through the battery to illuminate the area.

“10 years ago, we decided to pick out a deprived community like Komfokrom where we encouraged the school children to develop an interest in going to school and through that we have had some children from the community who have completed Senior high school. This is the sort of impact we have made over the years”

The NGO also presented bags of rice, tinned tomatoes, biscuits, clothes and some toys to the various groups present at the event.

Calls for certain negative widowhood rites to be abolished

Culture, it said, is a vehicle for national development. In this sense, it becomes a panacea and tool that could be exploited for any country’s development.

But there are certain negative cultural practices which are considered to be inimical, and dehumanizing and infringe on the fundamental human rights of people who become victims to such cultural practices.

This, the Executive Director of La vie Foundation, Yvonne Adomako Asabre believes that such obnoxious cultural practices where are being forced to strip naked, forced into confinement, disallowed from eating some particular types of food and forced to select a husband from the deceased husband’s family for remarriage, should be completely abolished.

“Women, during this period only need to be showed love and care and not to be subjected to such inhumane practices which further disintegrates the family”.

Rose Abdullah, a widow also shared her frustrations about how some widows are treated. She said such practices further deepen the ordeals the widows go through after losing their husbands.

” I also experienced this when my husband died. At a point, you will be told to sleep with the brother of your late husband. Failure to do it, the family will ignore you and your children totally. This is very inhumane and should be abolished”, she added.
Obeng Dompreh, a physically challenged man lauded La vie foundation for the party. He said such events only bring hope and confidence back to persons with disability who mostly feel marginalised.

He appealed to the Local authorities, as part of the disbursement of disability fund, to allocate portions for organising get-togethers for the PWDs during festive seasons.

Sarkodie has dropped a new freestyle addressing claims made by South African rapper Nasty C that he reached out to him for a collab but he snubbed him.

Recall that weeks ago, the talented rapper revealed in a dope freestyle that he had declined a request for a collab from Sarkodie on two occasions because he refused to exchange pleasantries with him when they first met.

“See, when I first met Sarkodie, he wouldn’t shake my hand… Cool, I’m not too proud to say I’m still a fan but I held a grudge and told myself to wait till I’m the man..” Nasty C dropped his bars over a beat.

However, Sarkodie has hit back at him in a similar fashion saying it’s not true he asked for a collab from him.

Sarkodie clarified that he is aware of what Nasty C is doing and that it is necessary to hit a big gun like him in order to sustain his relevance.

Jordan Ayew scores as Crystal Palace beat Bournemouth

0

Crystal Palace scored twice from set pieces in the first half to beat Bournemouth 2-0 away in the Premier League on Saturday, banishing their Boxing Day blues and finishing the year on a high.

Jordan Ayew and Eberechi Eze both converted from corners at a rain-soaked Vitality Stadium as Palace put aside criticism from manager Patrick Vieira after Monday’s 3-0 loss to Fulham and posted a third win in their last five league fixtures.

Ayew had Palace ahead after 19 minutes as he rose unchallenged to glance his header wide of goalkeeper Mark Travers with Bournemouth guilty of ball watching as the corner came across.

It was the first goal of the season for the Ghana international as Palace created eight chances to none for Bournemouth in the opening 20 minutes.

Eze’s effort in the 36th minute was just as simple as a corner was cut back to him on the edge of the penalty area and, with no defender anywhere near him, he hammered the ball home to double the visitors’ lead.

The result kept Palace in 11th spot as they advanced to 22 points while Bournemouth slipped a place to 15th.

It was a third defeat for Bournemouth since returning from the World Cup break, during which time they appointed caretaker coach Gary O’Neil on a permanent basis and completed the sale of the club to a consortium called Black Knight Football Club, led by American businessman Bill Foley and actor Michael B Jordan.

Both were given a warm welcome by supporters before kickoff but will have quickly realised they need to spend to strengthen the squad in the January transfer window or prepare for a battle against relegation in the coming months.

O’Neil was on the bench despite having struggled with illness on the eve of the match after a virus swept through the Bournemouth camp this week.

But if he was still feeling grim, his players would have exacerbated his condition as they turned in a lethargic first half performance.

It was better after the break for the home side but they only threatened to score when Dominic Solanke forced a sharp save from Palace’s goalkeeper Vicente Guaita in the 53rd minute.

Palace could have extended the scoreline in the final 15 minutes with chances for both Wilfried Zaha and substitute Odsonne Edouard.

La Liga ‘does nothing’ about ‘racists’

Vinicius Jr joined Real Madrid for £38m as an 18-year-old in 2018

La Liga “continues to do nothing” about “racists” attending games, says Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr.

The Brazil international appeared to be racially abused by fans during the 2-0 win at Real Valladolid on Friday.

In September Atletico Madrid condemned “unacceptable” chants by supporters towards the 22-year-old.

“Racists keep going to games and watching the greatest club in the world up close and La Liga continues to do nothing,” Vinicius said.

“I will carry on with my head held high and celebrating my victories and those of Madrid. In the end, the fault is mine.”

A La Liga spokesperson said “hate speech has no place” in the league.

They added: “We are investigating last night’s match and, as always in these cases, will work with the clubs and appropriate authorities to identify and prosecute anyone guilty of hate speech.

“La Liga has detected videos uploaded to social networks of racist insults from a person, not from groups, and they will be charged as in previous cases.”

In October 2021 La Liga reported racist insults aimed at Vinicius to the prosecutor’s office.

This month Spanish prosecutors closed an investigation into racist chants by Atletico fans and said it was not possible to identify those involved.

Sina Rambo’s wife continues to drag him

In another post, Korth had announced that her marriage to the singer had crashed while responding to backlashes.

The mother of one took to her Instagram story to drag the upcoming singer for being an infidel.

Korth claimed that Sina Rambo can’t provide financially for the family and would rather spend his money on weed. To add to it, he was disrespecting her mother.

B-Red queries Sina Rambo’s wife, Korth

B-Red had even reacted to her allegations as he threw a subtle shade at Korth.

Taking to his Instagram story, B-Red questioned why a person would be angry that someone is rich and comes from a wealthy family.

“How can you be angry that someone is rich and comes from a wealthy family? (It doesn’t not make sense)”.

Former Black Stars striker, Prince Tagoe, has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 by a Circuit Court in Accra.

Despite being remanded to reappear on January 4, his lawyers have managed to convince the court to have him admitted to bail on his third time of asking on Friday, December 30, the last working day of the year 2022.

In addition to the bail sum, he is to produce three sureties, one of whom the court said should be a civil servant.

Another of the sureties the court said should be justified with landed property whilst the other could be an ordinary Ghanaian.

According to EIB Network’s Legal Affairs Correspondent, Murtala Inusah, the former Black Stars and Hearts of Oak striker has paid additional GH¢59, 000 in addition to the GH¢70, 000 earlier paid to the court on December 23.

Prince Tagoe, popularly known as Prince of Goals, would celebrate the New Year with his family if he meets the bail terms.

The former Ghana Premier League goal king who was charged for defrauding by false pretense of former footballer George Antwi Boateng to the sum of $40,000 equivalent to GH¢265,200, had pleaded not guilty.

He was first arraigned and charged on Wednesday, December 21 and remanded by the Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Mr Samuel Bright Acquah.

His second bail application moved on December 23 was also turned down but he was lucky on his third attempt on December 30.

On Friday, December 23, two days after his first appearance, Prince Tagoe, through his new lawyers led by Lawyer Kwesi Kwarkye paid an amount of GH¢70,000 to the court as part payment of the said money.

Prince Tagoe was not present in court when the case was called. But his lawyers were present while Chief Inspector Agartha Abena Asantewaa represented the prosecution.

Brief facts

On December 21, the Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Agartha Abena Asantewaa told the court that the complainant is George Antwi Boateng, an Ex-Ghanaian footballer based in Germany.

Whilst the accused person Prince Tagoe is also an Ex-Ghanaian footballer who also once lived in Germany.

According to the prosecutor, the accused person was once a player under the management of the complainant in Germany and in the year 2020, both parties met in Ghana and in the course of their conversations the complainant told the accused person that he needed a 4X4 Lexus vehicle to buy.

Chief Inspt. Asantewaa said, the accused person immediately agreed to import the vehicle for the complainant at a cost of $40.000.00 USD equivalent to (GH¢265,200).

She said on January 8, 2021, $40,000 USD was paid into the accused person’s First Atlantic Bank Account No. 0016531332032 which accused person acknowledged receipt through a phone call to the complainant that the money had hit his account.

The prosecutor said, the accused person then promised to deliver the vehicle to the complainant on March 30, 2021, but the date elapsed yet the accused person failed to fulfill his part of the obligation.

She said the accused person then called the complainant and pleaded for an additional two weeks to produce the vehicle and the complainant obliged him.

She told the court that the two weeks expired but still, the accused person was not able to import the vehicle as promised.

According to him, on April 27, 2021, the complaint came down to Ghana to receive his vehicle but to no avail and when the complainant called to demand his vehicle, the accused person stated that he could not import the vehicle but rather used the money for his personal pressing issues.

Two weeks passed but the accused person failed to pay the money and after investigations, the accused person was charged with the offence and put before this court.
