The Commissioner for Information in Kogi State, Kingsley Fanwo, talked about the medical specialist hospital that was being built by the governor, Yahaya Bello, of Kogi State.

The Commissioner, while talking during an Arise TV interview on the importance of some of the projects that were recently commissioned by President Buhari for the people of the state, noted that everyone in Kogi State is excited about the projects and not just the governor alone, as he indicated that the hospital built by the governor is the best in the country, which could help in ending medical tourism in Nigeria because there is some equipment in the hospital that cannot presently be found in any hospital in Africa.

He further noted that the hospital is the first on the entire African continent, which makes it a source of pride for the country and people of the state. He also made it known that there are many other specialist hospitals that are being built by the governor apart from the one President Buhari just commissioned, and he would be bold to say that the governor has delivered in his two key areas of focus, which are health and education.

A Kia truck carrying cement and blocks was involved in an accident at the Pokuase interchange on Saturday, December 31, 2022.

According to an eyewitness account, the driver failed brake and hit two street light poles in front of a house, severely damaging them as well as some vehicles parked on the pavement.

Among the vehicles affected was a Nissan Versa saloon car with registration number GS 7346-17 which was damaged beyond repairs.

Hawkers who ply their trade on the interchange escaped the incident by an inch.

In a video posted on Facebook, the eye witness asserted that he used to advise the owner of the saloon car not to park at the location of the accident, but she consistently disregarded his suggestions.

“But for the street lights and a car parked on the pavement which saved the day, Pokuase in Accra, would have been thrown into a state of mourning around 11.30 am today 31st December 2022.

“A KIA truck, carrying blocks and cement when descending towards the Pokuase township from the interchange… failed brakes and hit two street light poles in front of my house causing severe damage to them and some vehicles parked on the pavement,” the eye witness narrated.

Deliberate policy needed on local rice production

0

The Chamber of Agribusiness Ghana is calling for a clear government policy brief to achieve targets of limiting excessive rice importation into the country.

The Chamber believes Ghana has both natural and human resources to begin and sustain wider rice production in the sub-region.

These comments come on the back of an assurance made by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta in an engagement with the leadership of the Jospong Group of Companies and investors from Thailand that the government is committed to reversing Ghana’s extreme importation of rice by the end of 2023.

Speaking to Citi News, Lead Agribusiness Consultant at the Chamber of Agribusiness Ghana, Kojo Ahiakpa said, “Ghana’s ability to be rice sufficient is clear in statistics, what we need is that strong policy to promote local participation and also consumption of locally produced rice. With respect to cutting down on importation, I think it is long overdue. Government’s 1D1F should have taken rice production to the next level. We have the manpower, land, and the market, what we need now is a deliberate government policy”.

He also urged stakeholders in the agriculture sector to rally financial support for local rice farmers in order to meet international competition by producing standard rice for the global market.

“One of the difficult parts of local production is the lack of capital to meet the standards. One of the reasons why some people don’t like patronising the local rice is the issue of stones, which are sometimes mixed with the grains because the rice is milled manually. If we get the right machinery, our rice production will be devoid of stones and other stuffs”.

Mzbel Apologises To Afrochella Fans After ‘Terrible’ Performance

0

Songstress, Mzbel has apologised to Afrochella music concert fans for what many have described as a “poor” show from her.

Mzbel was among the celebrated African music acts who performed at the Afrochella music festival in Accra at the EL-Wak Sports Stadium.

It was her first-ever performance at Afrochella after she has been off the music stage for a very long time. Unfortunately, a lot of music fans were not enthused with her performance as she lacked energy on stage.

In a Facebook post, she expressed regret to the fans for her terrible performance. She claimed it was because she couldn’t hear herself or her music in the background, she had to continue shouting to amuse herself and her followers.

She wrote, “To all Mzbelievers who are disappointed in my performance at the just ended Afrochella 2022, I am terribly sorry and I’m disappointed too cos this is not how we prepared to entertain u.”

“What happened was I couldn’t hear myself and couldn’t hear my music on stage that’s why I kept on shouting and trying my best to have fun somehow but it all ended up trashy. Also, the lights hitting the stage were just too strong for my fragile eyes so I couldn’t even see the crowd to interact properly.

Without any rehearsals and dancers, I made u proud at Ghana Awards UK 2021 but unfortunately, the media houses and bloggers trashing me today didn’t share it like they sharing this particular performance but hey I promise to make it up to u soon. There’s a bigger gig in the pipeline and if arrangements work out well I will make u proud again.”

Arsenal beat Brighton to move seven points clear

0

Arsenal moved seven points clear at the top of the Premier League with an entertaining victory at Brighton.

This result, allied to Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Everton, extends Arsenal’s advantage heading in to 2023.

The visitors were cruising at 3-0 thanks goals by Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Eddie Nketiah before Kaoru Mitoma pulled one back.

Gabriel Martinelli settled any nerves with Arsenal’s fourth before Evan Ferguson added Brighton’s second with his first league goal.

Mitoma had a second goal chalked off to deny the home fans a grandstand finish as Arsenal held on for a deserved three points.

Brighton were a long way off the pace for the first hour, but after Martinelli had restored the three-goal advantage they showed great spirit to reduce the arrears again through Ferguson.

They were then convinced they had made it 4-3 with two minutes remaining when Mitoma looked to have scored again, but after a VAR check the Japanese midfielder was revealed to be just offside.

Arsenal are back in action against Newcastle United on Tuesday, buoyed by an increasingly formidable-looking lead over champions City with both sides having played 16 games.

Man who allegedly shot and killed sawmill operator arrested

A 25-year-old man, Sowah, is in the custody of the Agona Swedru Divisional Police for allegedly shooting a sawmill operator to death at Agona Asafo in the Agona East District of the Central Region.

The deceased, 43-year-old Kweku Yeboah, was shot dead on Friday during an altercation with the suspect.

Residents of Agona Asafo in an interview with Adom News’ Kofi Adjei have accused the Agona Swedru Police of doing nothing to prevent the alleged murder.

According to them, Sowah had been threatening several people in the area with his gun but the Agona Swedru District and Divisional Police Command failed to arrest the suspect after several complains lodged.

The distraught residents alleged the suspect claimed before the death of Kweku Yeboah that he can kill anybody.

The angry residents have called on the IGP to sack all Agona Swedru Police officers because they are disgracing the Police administration.

Mother of the deceased, Maame Yaaba, said her son could have survived if the suspect had allowed them to take him to the hospital on time.

Maame Yaaba has appealed to the IGP to come to their aid, else Agona Swedru Police will destroy the case.

Meanwhile, when Adom News contacted the Agona Swedru District and Divisional Police Command , they declined to comment on the issue.

Why SDK Asked His Late Father To ‘Give Up’ |

Popular Ghanaian skit-maker, Sadik Sulley, popularly known as ‘SDK’, has recounted a painful moment in his life where he was compelled to tell his father to give up the ghost.

He said watching his late father lay on his sick bed unresponsive, coupled with the extent to which he suffered, broke his heart.

The popular skit-maker whose father used to feature in his funny skits died on November 24, 2021.

The comedian, at that time, took to social media to announce his father’s demise which attracted the attention of scores of celebrities.

“Lost my dad today, rest in peace my oldgee,” he wrote.

But a year on, SDK has opened up on his difficult encounter during his father’s last moments on earth.

In excerpts of a ‘yet-to-be-aired’ interview with Delay, SDK said his late father battled stroke during the same time his mother struggled with the same condition.

SDK said the thoughts of having his parents battle stroke and how it took a toll on his family compelled him to ask his father to give up.

“He has fallen down a number of times and at a point I lifted his hands and it was very numb. After I carried him one instance, I told him that my mother has stroke and he now also has stroke so it’s better for him to give up. He couldn’t speak, I was calling him and he wasn’t responding so I whispered those words in his ear,” he disclosed in an interview with Delay.
