I made presenting in Twi prestigious – Delay

0

Award-winning Radio and Television personality, Deloris Frimpong Manso popularly known as Delay has revealed that she IS one of the few people who have made the “Twi” presentation “prestigious.”

According to the “Delay Show” host, she was labelled as someone who couldn’t speak English in the early years of her television career because at the time English was more prevalent when presenting.

According to Delay, her colleagues like Jeremy, Doreen Andoh, Wolf, Caroline Sampson, and other young, well-liked English-speaking presenters were mentioned as ruling the scene at the time.

“Of course. I will boldly say I made Twi presenting prestigious because remember when I came on television the first time, years ago, people tagged me as a villager because I was speaking Twi because at that time it was Maame Dokono and some other older presenters who spoke Twi. English was the thing for all the youngsters like  Caroline Sampson, Jeremy, Doreen Andoh … so I was like a weird person. But today, Vodafone, Coca Cola, Ideal Milk obiaa billboard they’ll find Twi and put there… Twi has become the new flex,” Delay said in an interview on Pure FM.

Though she stated that nothing she often says when presenting is written, “It’s just on the spot… once I psych myself up to do it, I’ll just do it. I can just create something,” she added.

Delay claimed that the environment she found herself in as a child had a significant impact on how she spoke; her grandmother is the source of her linguistic skills and eloquence.

“I realised I needed to do something different. So, I was intentional about it”, she said in response to the question “Was it deliberate from the beginning?”

Gloria Ampofo

Singer/songwriter and football fan, Gloria Ampofo, will help push the prevailing soccer fever a notch higher as she launches the video of her ‘Ghana Black Stars Are Great Stars’ song at the Mikado Conference Centre at Labone Junction, Accra on November 9.

The song is Gloria Ampofo’s contribution to inspire the Black Stars as they head to the FIFA Men’s World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

The 10.00am corporate and media launch event is being organised by the Gloria Ampofo Gospel Ministry in collaboration with International Youth Society (Ghana).

Gloria Ampofo believes a cheer song for the players and fans could go a long way to help raise the morale of the team.

That’s why she, with help from well-known sound engineer, Quick Action, recorded the jumpy track that triggers a happy, ‘Jama’ feel whenever it is heard. The song praises the abilities of the Ghanaian team and their resolve to bring glory to the nation.

She says in the song that it is the Lord who has made the Black Stars great, and urges all who listen to it to join her in prayer for the team for a good showing at the football spectacle.

In 2014, she released an eight-track collection of Christmas carols. In 2017, she came out with a lively, danceable highlife track in English for Ghana’s 60th independence anniversary. Other notable musical items to her credit include Bible-inspired songs for children, choirs, women’s fellowships and more Christmas carols yet to come out.

The video about to be launched is a well-shot colourful presentation of the Black Stars in action on the field, jubilant supporters of the team, presentation of the World Cup Trophy to President Akufo-Addo during its world tour and other images that inspire patriotism among football fans.

The singer is expected to do a live rendition of the song at the corporate and media launch. The ‘Ghana Black Stars Are Great Stars’ song and video are available on all major digital platforms.

Be careful – Yaa Titi Sends Strong Word Of Caution To EC Chair Against Compilation Of New Register

0

It seems our traditional system of governance by far is the best with customs and traditions, taboos and superstition working effectively, as compared to this foreign adopted system called “Democracy”. How on earth will we waste millions of dollars to compile new voters register every four years to elect leaders?

Yaa Titi has called out the electoral commission Madam Jean Mensah to be wary of decisions made at her outfit and hinted at an impending compilation of new voters register which has the tendency to destabilize the peace of the country in the next general elections.

The multimedia journalist who was incensed with the Electoral Commission chairperson made it known this morning during the editorial segment on Onua Tv and revealed that there is going to be a new voter registration exercise by the EC.

She continued by saying a whopping $80 million is presumed to be used in this exercise at the expense of the impoverished masses and that is unacceptable.

In commenting further about the issue, she stated that it has become a ritual for politicians to embark on needless ventures for their parochial interests and neglect the people to languish in poverty.

“Be very careful Jean Mensah and avoid an attempt to compile a new register or else you would have yourself to blame for any unfortunate happening,” she concluded.

Petrol Now GH¢17.99/Litre, Diesel GH¢23.49

The new price at one of the OMCs pumps

OIL MARKETING Companies (OMCs) on Tuesday displayed new prices for petroleum products they sell at their pumps.

Petrol now costs GH¢17.99 per litre from GH¢14.99 previously while diesel was selling at GH₵23.49 per litre from GH¢17.99 before.

Analysts have attributed the fall in the value of the local currency against the US dollar and other major trading currencies to the rise in fuel prices.

The cascading effects of fuel hikes in recent times have been the wanton pricing of food, which has led to a high cost of living as the daily wages of patrons are not enough to cater for their needs.

Also, it has translated to hikes in the transportation of both individuals and food items.

In Ghana, the price of fuel is determined by a formula that takes into consideration the world market price of each petroleum product; the cost of importing or producing the product and making it available for loading to retail outlets at the storage depot (referred to as the Suppliers’ Premium); the Ghana Cedi (GHS) to US Dollar (USD) exchange rate; the taxes/levies on each petroleum product; and the distribution margins on each product.

The flags of participating countries in the 2022 FIFA World Cup are hung along a street in Doha

The organisers of the World Cup in Qatar are paying groups of fans to travel to the tournament, saying they are asking them for positive comments on social media in return.

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) confirmed the policy of inviting groups of supporters to the finals as guests after reports by Dutch public broadcaster NOS, which said on Sunday that Qatar was paying for flights and hotels for a group of 50 Dutch fans.

In return, these supporters have had to sign a “code of conduct” urging them to post favourable comments about the tournament on social media and to report “any offensive, degrading or abusive comments” by others to the SC, preferably with screenshots.

The broadcaster cited two Dutch fans who said they had been selected by the tournament’s organisers as Fan Leaders and who added that they had been asked to pick a group of 50 loyal supporters for the free trip to Qatar.
