Dredw, Essilfie Drop ‘Luv Lyf’ EP

0

Dredw and Essilfie

Dredw and Essilfie’s highly anticipated EP album titled ‘Luv Lyf’ has been released and currently available on all digital streaming platforms.

The producer-DJ and fast-rising singer (both independent) together have been almost impossible to miss, being the duo to watch in Ghana as of late.

Last Thursday, the duo treated some friends and fans to an exclusive listening at Bloombar-Osu, before the project officially hits the platforms for streaming and download.

Among the guests were Moliy, Ria Boss, KalyJay, C-Real, $pacely, Kuvie and other personalities. ‘Luv Lyf’ has five songs that extend into multiple themes suggestive of its title. It’s the perfect offering, boasting of ‘Ride (I Luv It)’, a stunning opener and is arguably the project’s most heartfelt song lyrically. Essilfie squeezes the most out of Dredw’s simple yet classy sounds, introducing plush, vibrant vocals that seek to reassure her lover that they will be happiest together.

Talking about what seems to be a brilliant partnership thus far, Dredw shared: “Compiling ‘Luv Lyf’ was quite a challenge because there were many great songs at our disposal, so it was hard to make a selection. After all, it has been long overdue and we’re glad the fans were patient enough. It is our wish they enjoy it.” After listening, one can definitely tell that Dredw nailed the production on all the songs, with additional saxophone melodies to spice it up.

The project escapes feeling mundane by sidestepping the issue of “filler” songs as well as being blatantly generic.

Dredw and Essilfie lock a lot of calm, confidence and originality in their highly anticipated project, writing it off as one of this year’s best: song for song, which is exactly why ‘Luv Lyf’ is an aesthetic bundle of pure vibes.

Stop acting as insurance intermediaries – NIC warns banks, financial institutions

0

The National Insurance Commission (NIC) has cautioned banks and financial institutions which are not licensed by the commission to desist from serving as insurance intermediaries.

The commission has further charged them to stop soliciting fees, commissions, and or other remuneration from insurance companies in exchange for referring clients, customers or any other person whether individual or corporate to the insurer.

It has also asked them to desist from soliciting insurance business for the insurer, inviting another person or causing that person to be invited as a customer through an advertisement or otherwise; performing any other function of an agent assigned to that person by the insurer; and the performance of any other function with respect to insurance.

The insurance regulator in a public notice pointed out that the activities, for which fees, commissions and / or other remunerations were solicited and paid were the preserve of insurance intermediaries duly licensed by the National Insurance Commission (NIC) for that particular purpose.

It said the activities of these unlicensed institutions was, therefore, a breach of section 109 of the new Insurance Act, 2021 (Act 1061).

Penalty

The commission further warned that unlicensed individuals or corporate bodies who continued to operate as insurance intermediaries were liable to a term of imprisonment of not less than two years and not more than five years.

It said these individuals and institutions were also liable to pay the Commission an administrative penalty of not less than 2,500 penalty units and not more than 10,000 penalty units if arrested.

The commission also cautioned all regulated entities who did business with these individuals and institutions to act appropriately.

Minority ‘Abandons’ Petition Over EC

0

Haruna Iddrisu

A PETITION of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) opposing the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to lay a new Constitutional Instrument (C.I.) in Parliament to register new voters has been stood down.

Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, explained that this was to enable the NDC MPs to do consultation with their Majority counterparts on the matter.

The advertised petition had demanded the House to free the proposed Public Elections (Registration of Voters) C.I., indicating that the legislation should not be laid until “the backlog of Ghana Cards, which the National Identification Authority has admitted to, has been cleared.”

The NDC MPs also argued in the petition that the proposed C.I. by the EC would be a subsidiary legislation and therefore cannot override the substantive provision in the constitution on the citizens’ right to register and vote, noting that the “insistence on the Ghana Card as the only evidence of citizenship will deny millions of citizens the right to register and vote.”

The Minority wants the EC to include other forms of evidence of citizenship such as Ghanaian passport and the guarantor system to be part of the proposed legislation.

It intimated, “Any further action on the proposed C.I., by or in Parliament should be frozen until consultations have been initiated and concluded with the major stakeholders, especially the political parties, including the NDC, and civil society.”

Speaker

Last Friday, the Speaker of Parliament flexed his muscles against EC, cautioning the electoral management body to have the pre-laying meetings with him and the leadership of the House before it can submit any Constitutional Instrument to Parliament for laying.

According to him, until that is done, the EC ought to “forget about laying any such instrument in the House,” adding that officials of the electoral management body have misconstrued the concept of independence of the commission.

Independence Argument

“I think there is misinterpretation and misunderstanding of the concept of independence of various state institutions or arms of government that are stated by the constitution to be independent,” he stressed.

Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, had earlier raised the issue and said that the EC intended to lay a new C.I. in Parliament to pave the way for the commission to register only people with ID cards from the National Identification Authority (NIA).

“There is a discrepancy in the numbers between what the EC have registered as voters – up to 17 million and what is on the rolls of the National Identification Authority.

“And we hear that the EC wants to rely on the National Identification Authority data. The primary question the Hon Ahmed is asking is what has happened to the Electoral Commission’s own biometric data that today the EC is avoiding the use of their own data they collected and want to collect biodata from the NIA,” he asserted.

In a response, Speaker Bagbin said, “I will not allow any such instrument to be laid in this House until I am briefed, and I think that is the proper thing to do, together with the House to make sure that the right thing is done in accordance with the provisions of the constitution.”

He continued, “I have not heard anything from the EC and I have not been given any brief by the EC on any proposed instrument coming from them. I raised this sometime ago and I am yet to receive them to be briefed on it.”

He said, “Until that is done, they should forget about laying any such instrument in the House,” and continued, “The independence is in the performance of their functions.”

The Speaker explained, “When a matter comes before Parliament, that is the performance of our function; not their function. And they cannot say they are not subject to the control of anybody, including the institution of Parliament.”

“Because that time, that is our function that we are going to perform and we are not subject to the control of any arm of government or institution of state,” he insisted.

“So please, the EC, the Bank of Ghana, including the judiciary, should take note that their independence doesn’t mean that independence [prevents] Parliament from performing its functions,” he insisted.

“So, if the C.I. is to come to the House, the proper thing must be done; both procedure and substantive laws have to be followed,” the Speaker emphasised.

Mr. Bagbin stated that anybody who is not satisfied with the decision taken by him is permitted to proceed to the Supreme Court.

I’m ready to tell the court about Fennec Okyere’s murder – Shatta Wale threatens Bullgod

0

Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale is seemingly unhappy that his former “employee”, Bullgod, may have leaked the contents of his album so he is threatening to hit back at him.

The ‘Ayoo’ hitmaker has threatened to confess to the police what truly happened with late artiste manager Fennec Okyere’s murder.

In his post on Facebook Shatta Wale said he is ready to tell a court what Bullgod had told him at the time Mr Okyere was murdered.

He wrote “Bull Dog since you are bringing out secrets, you will tell Ghanaians what happen to Fenicks Murder!! And I am not joking about this time!!

“I am ready to tell the court about what you told me about you and your men and how planned that foolish act, get ready. This Akufo-Addo won’t give you a murder (sic) chance to be on our streets !!! Watch how this ends!!! You can’t fight time!!!”

This comes after leaked what he claims are the artiste features on the tracks for Shatta Wale’s upcoming album Gift of God’ (GOG) in their ongoing beef.

Fennec Okyere, who was the manager of the controversial musician, Kwaw Kese, 31, was killed at his Manet Gardens residence on Spintex Road, Accra on March 13, 2014, by unknown assailants.

Following his death, Bullgod, born Lawrence Nana Asiama Hanson, was picked up by the Police Criminal Investigative Department (CID).

He was arrested in Kokomlemle, a suburb of Accra, as a prime suspect in the death of Fennec Okyere.

This was because Bullgod who was in constant beef with Fennec Okyere had supposedly threatened him in an interview.

Bullgod’s plea was been taken even though per the police charge sheet, he was charged with conspiracy to commit murder until an Accra High Court subsequently bailed him.

In 2017, the Bullhaus Entertainment CEO was freed over the alleged murder.

The then Attorney-General (AG), Gloria Akuffo had said that the state was no longer interested in prosecuting Lawrence Nana Asiama Hanson, aka Bulldog, over the alleged murder of Fennec Okyere.

This was contained in the AG’s advice on the case docket.

Meanwhile, Bullgod has consistently denied having a hand in Fennec Okyere’s murder. In a 2020 interview, he even claimed that the beef he had with the deceased was planned between them.

According to him, the jabs they threw at each other were aimed at promoting their artistes and also to remain relevant as managers.

In a 2022 interview on Hitz FM, he maintained his innocence adding that he never threatened Fennec Okyere despite their disagreements.

He said that he had thrown jabs at the late artiste manager but never had he said anything that constitute a threat.

One Year After The Sea Ravaged Homes In Ketu South, Residents Call For Help | Social

0

Last year, over 15 communities in the Anloga District and Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region were hit by tidal waves.
The affected communities were Fuveme, Dzita, Akplorwortor, Agbledomi, Atsiteki, Anyanui, Atokor in the Anloga District, and Amutinu, Salakorpe in the Ketu South Municipality respectively.

A year after the incident, the residents say they have not seen anything being done to protect them against a future reoccurrence of the disaster.

In November last year, many structures including newly constructed schools were affected by the tidal waves.

A local guesthouse and lodging place called ‘Meet Me There African Home Lodge’, a healthcare centre and several other houses were rendered uninhabitable.

The main road along the stretch was covered with sea water, making vehicular and human traffic difficult.

Farms were also not spared, as many of them, were submerged. At Anyanui for instance, tomato and cassava farms were also destroyed, a situation which affected agricultural production in the area.

A year after the incident which forced many of the residents to vacate the affected areas, nothing concrete has been done.

Some of the residents have called for the construction of a sea defence wall to protect them and prevent a situation where they will have to lose the land they have occupied for so many years.

‘We need a sea defence wall. Lives and properties must be protected in our area.’
Those were the words of Mr Sylvester Kumawu last year. He is the assembly member for Amutinu-Salakope, one of the communities hit by the tidal waves in the Ketu South municipality in the Volta Region.

He said life had been very tough for the affected families, and that what was required was a long-term solution to the problem.

The tidal waves disrupted the economic activities of the people and affected the people’s health, education and other daily engagements.

For months, over 1,000 residents of Agavedzi, Adina, Amutinu and Salakope in about 135 homes were affected and rendered homeless by the ravaging sea, which kept swallowing homes and destroying property.

Amplified call

The amplified call for a sea defence wall in the affected area appears to have become urgent because the sea — which used to be 500 metres away from human settlements — is now about 100 metres closer to the people.

The tidal waves became intense from 2015, for which reason the government signed a contract with Amadi Company Limited for a sea defence project.

The first phase of the project, which commenced in 2016, tackled the coastal stretch from Havedzie/Horvi-Blekusu-Agavedzi, which at the time was at the mercy of the destructive force of the waves.

The second phase was to be from Agavedzi-Salakope-Amutinu-Adina to other coastal communities.

The repercussions of the annual tidal waves have always been disastrous, although no casualty is recorded.

The Keta-Aflao road in the area is currently on the verge of being swept away by the sea, threatening to leave the communities trapped between the sea and the Keta Lagoon.

The people’s fear

The people fear that if the sea takes away the Keta-Aflao road around the area where the communities are located, it could further take away the main Accra-Aflao ECOWAS road if the sea defence wall is not constructed within the next two months.

To the people of the area, the only solution to the problem was a sea defence wall to protect residents of the affected communities.

Accra, Oct.31, GNA – Houston EB5 has partnered 3INVEST host an Open House to showcase “The Frederick”, its most recent investment opportunity.

“The Frederick,” which consisted of a 200-room full-service luxury hotel and event centre, condominiums, multi-family rental units, and nearly 30,000 square of retail space is located in Fredericksburg, Texas, between Austin and San Antonio, the top two fastest-growing cities in the United States of America (USA).

The project, designated as a rural project allows for a minimum investment of $800,000 and a 20 percent visa set-asides for rural Targeted Employment Area (TEA) projects against 10 percent for urban TEA ones.

It was an opportunity for EB-5 investors to invest in a “world-class” real estate project in Central Texas, the fastest growing region in the United States.

Ms Ruth Obih, Managing Director, 3INVEST said the new real estate project and its priority processing designation brought another ray of hope to potential EB-5 investors.

She said the multi-use development had received EB5 Priority Processing designation ensuring the fastest possible processing times in the EB5 program.

Houston EB5, certified by United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) as an EB-5 Regional Center, and had worked diligently to provide success for clients on I-526 and I-829 approvals.

With over 20 successful EB-5 raises and projects totaling 1.5 billion dollars in value, Houston EB5 projects sponsored more than 1,300 green cards and a 100 per cent capital repayment history.

The EB-5 Immigrant Investor Programme has gone through significant changes in 2022 with the enactment of the EB-5 Reform and Integrity Act (RIA) in March of 2022.

The new law contains significant protections and transparency measures to the benefit of EB5 investors and features priority processing for investors that invest in projects outside of large cities.

Mike Aggrey, GGA Boss

The much anticipated 2022 Ghana Open Golf Championship finally tees off today at the Damang Golf Course, in the Western Region.

Ghana Golf Association (GGA) president Mike Aggrey revealed the four-day event will feature 90 amateurs and 50 professionals, making it a total of 140 golfers drawn from10 clubs across Ghana.

The 140 golfers will be participating in various categories such as the professional, scratch event, both male and female, seniors and juniors.

The prize package for the professionals is GH¢50,000.00 as Ghana Golfers Association President Mike Aggrey said, “We were looking at GH¢100.000 but there was not enough sponsorship so we couldn’t increase the money for the professionals, that’s why we pegged it at GH¢50,000.00, whilst glittering trophies are available to be won by amateurs who will excel.”

When asked on how he anticipates this year’s championship because it will be his last as Ghana Golf Association president, Aggrey hinted that:

“I think it is the best event on the calendar of golf in Ghana. But the timing and grounds are really hard for the golfers looking at the location of the championship is a bit far, but golfers like their golf game so they will turn up.

“I’m really happy that we have had 140 people [Golfers] to participate and I’m sure we will see the best from them,” he added.

Zen Petroleum, Tang Palace, Rocksure, GGBL, Old Mutual, Ghandour Cosmetics, Strategic Security Systems and South Africa Airways are sponsors supporting Ghana Golf Association to put together this year’s event.

VALCO workers rejected 22% salary increase

0

The management of the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO) has said its workers rejected a 22 percent increment in salaries, saying it was insufficient.

The company felt this increment should have been welcomed by the agitating workers.

In a statement, VALCO said, the union executives, made an initial demand of a 62 percent salary increment to the Management of VALCO, and subsequently reduced it to 55 percent.

In response, the Management of VALCO said it offered the workers the 22 percent increase “with the assurance of further increment in the future as VALCO continues its efforts in finding a strategic investor to retrofit the plant.”

The Management of VALCO said it appealed to the workers to consider the current state of the Aluminium Smelter, which had been recording losses for years until 2021.

The over 300 workers in protest have shut down the smelter.

During the protest, the workers have also called for their salaries to be pegged to the dollar, which has appreciated greatly to the cedi in recent months.

VALCO has, however, said these demands from the workers are “untenable and must be disregarded.”

It further indicated to the workers union executives that they will have to invite an independent arbiter to take up the matter after negotiations ended up in a stalemate.
