When it comes to the issue of illegal and even legal foreigners, the minister of home affairs Aaron Motsoaledi has proven to be the only government official who is as much concerned about this as ordinary South Africans. We know that the media has made itself the number one fan of the foreigners as they try by all means to make it look like South Africans are wrong to demand that jobs should be preserved for South Africans, especially entry-level jobs. Jobs given to foreigners should be scarce skills. Apart from that, South Africa has many people who will be able to do that job.
The Minister of home affairs is the only one who speaks the same language as the people on the ground. According to the minister in home affairs, they are introducing a law governing job quotas for foreign nationals and this has been long in the making. It is not something that just started now. It started way back in 2015.
During the interview with Xoli Mngambi of Newzroom Afrika, the minister had a lot to say and he did not hold anything back. The minister does not want to hear the word xenophobic because it is always misused. When South Africans are doing the right thing, they are then accused of being xenophobic. According to the minister, several women who give birth in Musina are foreign nationals but yet we are being labeled as being xenophobic.
The minister has said it without fear or favor. We can not entertain illegal foreigners in the country. It is illegal to employ illegal foreigners and he made it clear that those people should be deported back to their countries. Simple as that. This issue does not even need expects to discuss.
However, he says that for those who are employed in
this country on a rare skill basis, there is a certain procedure to be followed. So this means that many foreigners who are employed in this country are on the wrong side of the law. Foreigners should come to this country to add value and not to be a burden to the government which is what is currently happening.
The minister also said that the critical skills list need to be updated every four years but the last time it was updated was in 2014. So it took eight years for the critical skills list to be reviewed.
SA says plans to introduce a law governing job quotas for foreign nationals is years in the making. This comes amid a series of anti-migrant campaigns. Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi breaks down components of the proposed law. #Newzroom405.
