The widely known South African movement called “put South Africa first”, took the streets of Hillbrow by storm on Saturday, when they embarked on a movement to restore what they called ‘law and order’. And later on, South African people witnessed another movement which emerged recently called ” Operation Dudula” joining hands with the put South Africa first, as they marched throughout the streets of Hillbrow.
This whole saga was recieved with mixed reactions, by South African people. On social media platforms, particularly on Twitter, there were some people who appeared to be agreeing with what the movements of operation Dudula and put South Africa first were doing in Hillbrow.
It is no secret that Hillbrow remains to be one of the most dangerous places in Johannesburg. Well, for those readers who might not know where Hillbrow is situated: Hillbrow is an inner city residential neighbourhood of Johannesburg, Gauteng Province, South Africa. It is known for its high levels of population density and many other activities which cannot be enumerated here.
In the meanwhile, one of the leader of the put South Africa first movement has taken to Twitter to indicate that, during their march on Saturday, they didn’t come across Zimbabweans or Nigerians. The leader of the put South Africa first asserted that on Saturday they went straight into the belly of the beast. The said leader further pointed out that Hillbrow belongs to South Africa.
In her own words, the leader of Put SA first stated the following, after she shared two pictures which were taken during their march on Saturday:
“We went to the belly of the beast yesterday #Hillbrow to mark our territory. Those foreigners who often claim that they own #Hillbrow especially Nigerians and Zimbabweans were nowhere to be found. #Hillbrow belongs to us, I hope its clear now.”
