A review is proposed to rethink uniform policy in South African schools to make it more inclusive.

The world is changing and schools cannot afford to be left behind. Schools are safe heaven where children are free to develop and choose a lifestyle that is more comfortable for them.

South African schools still follow the uniform system for learners. Learners of a particular school can be identified by the colours and make of their school uniform.

The traditional uniform in South Africa has girls wearing skirts or dresses while boys wear trousers whether short or long. This is now being seen by many has being stereotyped.

Advocacy groups are now calling for legislation to be amended to allow for more fluidity when it comes to the wearing of uniform. Boys will soon be allowed to wear skirts or dresses as part of the school uniform.

South Africa is still lagging behind when it comes to openness about the LGBTQIA community. This community has been subjected to a lot of discrimination and at times violence from the general public.
