“Thank God, I Don’t Have To Beg” -Lauretta Reacts After Nigeria Granted Foreigners Citizenship

The senior aide to President Muhammadu Buhari on social media, Miss Lauretta Onochie, has finally reacted to a news report that foreigners now beg to be Nigerian citizens as against the image being portrayed by some Nigerians, who are not happy with the current situation of things in the country.

Recall that The Cable had last week Wednesday reported that the Nigerian government through Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola, said the country recently granted 286 foreign nationals citizenship out of the six hundred applicants. The minister added that those granted Nigerian citizenship include Asians, Europeans and Americans.

Also, the Minister of Information, Lai Muhammed while expressing his happiness over the news summarily described the approval as groundbreaking. According to him, we have thousands of non-Nigrerians around the world who are still applying on a daily basis to be citizens of Nigeria even though some people say the country is not a right place to live in.

Reacting to the same news that has since been going viral on social media, Miss Lauretta reacted in a Facebook post saying, “Thank God, I don’t have to beg” be a Nigerian. Her reaction shows that she is proud to be a Nigerian in spite of negative portrayal of the country.

One may not but agree with her that no matter what the country is passing through now in terms of insecurity, dwindling economy, high inflation and unemployment rates, we will surely overcome. Nigeria is a country of opportunities blessed with both human and natural resources. The only problem at hand is having a leader who is passionate and patriotic about our country, so that all these potentials that abound in Nigeria can be harnessed for the benefit of all.

What is your take about Lauretta’s reaction as being proud of Nigeria? Are you also proud to be a Nigerian?
