Bheki Cele ‘Shows’ Malema Who’s Boss After Saying This

An untenable scenario between Police Minister Bheki Cele and EFF leader Julius Malema nearly ensued earlier on Monday in Parliament, when serious claims were leveled against the latter having the motive of removing the former from Cabinet.

Malema chastised Cele in his SONA debate response address, accusing him of failing to properly perform his obligations, particularly in securing the state’s sovereignty, which has been under threat from inside in recent months. Malema demanded Cele’s removal.

When it came time for the General to give his response to the president’s speech, he came out guns blazing against Malema, revealing that the EFF leader’s desire for his removal had been a long-running scheme dating back about two years.

He claimed Malema held a secret meeting with the embattled police commissioner, General Kehla Sitole, on December 10, 2020, in which an evil plot against him was hatched.

“I want to go back to 10 December 2020, where there was a meeting between yourself and the police commissioner, where the plan and the plot were hatched that I must be chased. I am not surprised that today this is happening,” Cele said.

Cele, who was heckled as he spoke, went on to declare that while he appreciates Malema’s call for his removal, the CIC should not patronize him, claiming that the president is the only one who employs and fires people.

There is no doubt that Cele is having restless nights as his position appears to be in jeopardy, and there are rumours that Ramaphosa may consider reconstituting his security cluster in the aftermath of the report’s harsh criticism of some of his ministers.

Quite interestingly though, Cele is one of Ramaphosa’s most-trusted allies and a highly influential member of the NEC, and with the 55th national elective conference on the horizon, the president would not want to disappoint Cele, who will be expected to lobby and mobilize for support in his home province of KwaZulu Natal, where Ramaphosa does not enjoy a lot of support.

What do you make of Cele’s revelations that Malema plotted with Sitole in an attempt to remove him?
