According to a report by Gazette, the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola has accused his estranged political godfather and APC national leader Bola Tinubu of double standards in Osun’s party affairs, vowing to thwart Governor Gboyega Oyetola’s bid for reelection. According to the ex-Osun governor, Mr. Tinubu orchestrated former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s failure to seek reelection, with the party against his second-term bid.
The truth is that Aregbesola has taken off his gloves. He is punching his godfather in the groin. He said after exalting Tinubu, Tinubu turned himself into a god. But Aregbe’s religion teaches him to ridicule small gods.
The minister of interior is taking no prisoners. He said Tinubu foisted Oyetola on Osun. And promised that Oyetola would deliver the goods, good governance, but Oyetola has gone rogue. So Aregbesola has decided to give Oyetola the Ambode treatment. The house of Tinubu is troubled.
The APC has handed state structures to the governor. Aregbesola has anointed Adeoti to fight Oyetola. Aregbesola is swimming against a high tide, but can Tinubu afford a wounded Aregbesola. Throwing sand and stones as he prepares for a major war?
One says live and let live. Aregbesola was a two-term Governor whom Tinubu fought for and invested heavily in, so he should let another person enjoy the same privilege. But he says no way. He will never be a two-term Governor.
You see in Nigeria you have to be careful because nothing is as it seems. Those who claim to seek reform are the greatest defenders of the status quo. Those who criticize godfatherism are its greatest beneficiaries and even practice it themselves. Those who burst drug dealers are themselves merchants trafficking in drugs.
