Johnnie Hughes, the host of Johnnie’s Bite on TV3 New Day program, has sent a bold message to the current government over journalists’ intimidation.
Media General Captain Smart and his producer/DJ, Eric Daniels Dadzie Copperfield also known as DJ GH Boy were detained at the National Security’s Office for close to 24 hours. That was after a hearing at an Accra Circuit Court 6 on February 2nd.
The Court granted the two bail after Captain Smart and Dj GH Boy pleaded not guilty to two counts of charges of extortion and abetment to extortion respectively.
However, Johnnie Hughes, even before he started his show today, sent a bold message to the government that, they can not intimidate any journalist in this country, especially his colleagues in Media General which Captain Smart is part of.
He also mentioned that all those followers of his show who don’t love him are just fulfilling scriptures, and he doesn’t care about that.
” I will give a special shout out to all those who dislike or hate me for what I do on Johnnie’s Bite. You fulfill the scriptures. The Bible says, woe unto you if all men love you. So I don’t expect everybody to love me but for those who genuinely love me, shout out to you all. For those also who don’t love me, shout out to you too because you are the reason we are empowered every morning to come here.”
” Intimidation of any form will not win, any day any time. The people can see through the calculated attempts sometimes to intimidate us[journalists]. We are focused because we didn’t start today.” Johnnie Hughes said today, on Johnnie’s Bite on TV3.
Johnnie Hughes and his cohort Captain Smart, have been very critical of the Nana Addo-led government. They always raised questions about the wrongs happening in this government and so they believe the government is trying their very best to intimidate them.
Do you agree with Johnnie that the government is trying to intimidate them and that will never win?
What’s your take on how the National Security treated Captain Smart and his producer DJ GH Boy?
