‘I bought the car with my sweat’ – Man, 44, cries in court after destroying a car

Cephas Ohene, 44, was could not hold his tears as he stood in the witness box of the Tarkwa Circuit court to defend himself out of jail. With four handkerchiefs in his hands, Cephas still called for a tissue to ease himself before the judge of the Tarkwa Circuit court gave him a 5 minutes break. Take the exit, use the washroom and make yourself neat. You have 5 minutes, the judge, Alex Obeng-Asante said to Cephas after his tears became uncontrollable in the courtroom this morning.

I bought the car with my sweat, I bought it with the last money on me and I never for once or ever said the car was for her, Cephas said in his witness box after he resumed his stand after the break. All I said was for her to use not to take or claim ownership.

It is my car and not her car, Cephas said in teary voice to the court. Gloria Ohene, the divorced wife of Cephas Ohene, had taken her ex-husband to the court for breaking into her house, beating her and destroying her car.

Cephas charged with attempted robbery, broke into the house of her ex-wife on 30 January 2022 and with a spare key, tried taking a Range Rover Evoque; an SUV belonging to Gloria away. Cephas after several unsuccessful attempt to get the car, slapped his wife when she blocked the car from leaving the house.

Cephas after the slap went ahead and destroyed the bumpers of the car before existing Gloria’s house on the morning of Sunday 30 January. Cephas was arrested on 31 January 2022 when Gloria pressed charges against her at the Tarkwa Police station.

On his first appearance to court this morning, Cephas could not hold his tears as he tried explaining himself to the court. The judge, Alexander Obeng-Asante was forced to adjourn the case when Cephas could not still hold down his tears after the court gave him a 5 minutes break to ease himself.

Cephas has given a 100,000cedis bail after his lawyers fought for bail this morning. Cephas will appear before the court on Monday 7 February 2022 to face his actions.

It is still unclear how Cephas’ lawyers will defend him of his actions after the ex-wife, Gloria Ohene submitted her car documents which were in her name as evidence to the court in support of her case. Cephas if found guilty, will not only repair the car but may he face jail in addition.
