There Will Be No Salaries If E-levy Is Rejected Has Paid January Salaries – Johnnie Hughes Teases

The brouhaha over the E-levy is still ongoing. The debate started last year after the Finance Minister presented the 2022 budget and proposed a new bill that seeks to tax mobile money transactions. Many Ghanaians kicked against the new levy because they say it will make the lives of Ghanaians better. The government however say this will not be the case.

Earlier last year during the brouhaha that followed the debates over the E-levy, many government communicators and officials expressed the view that if the e-levy is not passed, government workers might not be paid. This got many thinking about the repercussions of a delay in the passage of the bill.

Well, according to TV3’s Johnnie Hughes, it was all a blackmail. He raised issues as to what changed because government has paid workers. In a tweet, Johnnie called on the blackmail in forcing Ghanaians to accept the e-levy to stop. He wondered where government got money to pay the workers if they had claimed that salaries might not be paid if the levy isn’t passed.
