Hours after the controversial Political Parties Amendment Bill was overwhelmingly passed by the Kenyan parliament, Kieni MP Kanini Kega has warned DP William Ruto.
Through his Thursday message, the Raila Odinga allied Jubilee MP predicted doom for Ruto’s UDA outfit, claiming that Wednesday’s defeat at the floor of the house marked a beginning to its downfall.
According to the MP, the recent exit of Kirinyaga Woman MP Purity Ngirici from Ruto’s camp set the pace and that soon, many more leaders from the Mt Kenya region will also leave UDA.
This was after Ngirici, who had been one of Ruto’s close allies and loyalists, ended her dalliance with UDA, expressing clear indications of embracing Raila’s Azimio La Umoja in the future.
Ruto suffered his first defeat of 2022 in parliament after the bill, which most of his allies had tried to amend, was passed without further amendments.
Most of the amendments initiated by Ruto’s side to derail the passing process were defeated with a range of 55% opposition against Ruto’s team which marshaled an average of 45% votes.
It is expected that Ruto’s legal team will now be heading to the courts to challenge the bill, which is now expected to be presented on the floor of the Senate anytime soon.
