This is an editorial by Obeng_News telling the ruling government to as soon as possible pay the outstanding allowances of the Nations Builders Corps (NABCO) trainees. We, therefore, entreat the government to stop the continuous promise to pay those allowances and just pay their allowances.

The government is currently owing NABCO trainees about five months of their allowances for their services to the nation in those past months. The government has since failed to pay them but instead, government officials promise they will be paid and that they should exercise patience.

In the last two days, the first government official to promise they will be paid was the Member of Parliament for Effutu Constituency and the Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin who said on TV3 New Day on January 27 that NABCO trainees should exercise patience and they will be paid in no time.

“My empathy to them and I want to assure them if you have been paid all these months and you have five months outstanding please have patience, the government will tackle it”, deputy majority leader told Johnnie Hughes on TV3 New Day.

Again, the Deputy Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Ejisu Constituency, John Kumah told Ghana Television that NABCO trainees should exercise patience because they will surely be paid by the government. When asked exactly when they will be paid, Hon. John Kumah said he’s not sure but they will be paid.

“NABCO allowances will be paid, I think the allowance is at the Controller and Accountant General’s Office. Releases have been done to the controller so they will be paid.”

” I cannot give an exact date when they will be paid but I can assure them (NABCO trainees) they will be paid very soon.” Hon. John Kumah told Ghana Television.

But the facts of the case are that, it is true NABCO trainees are owed five months of their allowances. Again, it’s also a fact that they will surely be paid because it’s government owing them and surely by hook or crook, they will be paid.

However, the multimillion-dollar question is when will they be paid? And that is the most important question. How soon will they be paid?

The government should as soon as possible put things together and pay these innocent NABCO trainees their outstanding allowances because they are already suffering the effects of not being paid. It is so difficult to leave in Ghana without a salary for not one or two months but five months, that’s too much of a time, and we as concerned citizens don’t want this to continue.

Do you think the government has legitimate excuse for not paying the NABCO trainees so five months?
