Host Nation – Cameroon is currently flying high in the ongoing AFCON tournament and their current form is undoubtedly one of the best in the competition which can be able to compete with any team going forward.
They are also leading most of the top charts, talk of the Golden Boot race, assists – which Vincent Aboubakar and Karl Toko Ekambi are leading the race with six and five goals respectively and Martin Hongla and Collins Fai heading on the assists chart with three each as of today.
Although having a well-built team in this tournament with total goals scored 11 what have kept people like myself wondering is why the Stallions Lions of Cameroon have played all their games at one venue – the Olembe Stadium in Yaounde despite the numerous venues presented (6).
What we know about the stadium.
Olembe Stadium in Yaounde is reported to be the largest Stadium in Cameroon and the ninth in Africa with a capacity of 60,000 seats. It’s also reported to have TV and Radio studios set up alongside a swimming pool, a shopping center, a 5-star hotel, and additional two stadiums.
Now, the Stallion Lions happen to be the only fortunate team to have played all their games there against Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Cape Verde, Comoros, and Gambia in today’s fixture.Â
And keeping track of venues each team in the quarter-finals have played on – Cameroon seems to be the odd one with the likes of;
a. Gambia reported having played in three different venues the likes of Limbe Omnisport Stadium in Limbe, Kouekong Stadium in Bafoussam, and Olembe Stadium.
b. Burkina Faso – Roumde Adjia Stadium in Garoua, Limbe Omnisport Stadium, Kouekong Stadium, and Olembe Stadium.
c. Tunisia – Limbe Omnisport Stadium, Roumde Adjia Stadium.
d. Egypt – Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo, Stade omnisport de Douala, Roumde Adjia Stadium.
e. Morocco – Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo, Roumde Adjia Stadium.
f. Senegal – Stade omnisport de Douala, Kouekong Stadium.
g. Equatorial Guinea – Stade omnisport de Douala, Limbe Omnisport Stadium.
So looking at this revelation do you think the Olembe Stadium is a sort of motivation for the Stallions Lions of Cameroon going forward in this tournament?.
