The debate on the passing of the controversial e-levy has arises as parliament resumes its sittings. Speaking today on one of TV3’s popular morning show was was the minority speaker of parliament, Hon. Haruna Idrissu. He made it clear in the interview room by the minority is against the e-levy taxation initiative and they will fight against the policy with all their strength.
He described the e-levy of being a factor in reviving armed robbery on traders across the country for which he termed as “ an armed robbery economy”. Upon saying this, the host of the show questioned him for saying the e-levy will revive armed robbery in the country and this is what he said.
“The e-levy and it’s associate charges is going to discourage many Ghanaian traders from transacting their deals electronically hence pushing them to carry the money in person to their trading designations. This will in turn increase the rate at which people get robbed on such journeys hence shifting the economy towards that of an armed robbery economy and this puts the lives of the citizens at risk”.
This explanation given by the minority speaker has sparked serious arguments online as many netizens agree with whereas some are on the opposite side. Watch video of the scene where he made the statement and his matching explanation via the link below:
