The education authorities have been forced to shut down the Akro Secondary Technical School in the Lower Manya Krobo municipality following a tense stand-off between the students of the school and youth of Krobo-Odumase.
The students had seized young men from the town who had sneaked into the girls’ dormitory in the night to steal, beaten one of them to death and the other dropped unconscious.
The youth of the town however, are rejecting the claim that the two are thieves and they are mad at the students, vowing to make the students taste a dose of their medicine.
Emmanuel Kpabitey Sackitey and Solomon Odoi, had sneaked into the school in the night at about 10 pm on a mission to steal but it turned out to be a tragic misadventure as they were captured by the students, who would show no mercy to them.
They put them through hell – a terrible ordeal, as the students kicked, punched and hit them with they could lay their hands on.
When the police received information and got to the place, things had become too late for Emmanuel Kpabitey Sackitey, he was gone.
His body was carried together with his colleague, Solomon Odoi, who was unconscious, by the police to the Saint Martin de Porres Hospital at Krobo-Odumase.
Odoi is now on admission and his condition is said to be critical.
The Eastern Regional Education Directorate to prevent things from getting messy has sent the students home.
The decision was taken in consultation with the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Security Committee.
Mr. Emmanuel Acheampong, Spokesperson of the Regional Education Directorate, said the decision was to ensure the safety of the students.
Even before the official announcement of the closure of the school, many of the students had already left.
Relatedly, some residents of Nima and Maamobi took to the streets last week in a bloody display of lawlessness. The police have since arrested a good number of these gangsters.
