NADMO, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has noted that the truck carrying the explosives, which was destined for the Chirano Gold Mines site that caused the Bogoso-Appiate explosion had no escort despite carrying the explosive substance.
Escort cards are passenger cars that travel with a wide load to protect both the truck and other cars on the road. Most states only require escorts for loads that are over 10 or 12 ft. wide, but a few states require pilot vehicles for all wide loads.
“The vehicle was a 20 feet truck, not 40 feet. And whoever says the truck had an escort as the safety protocols usually stipulate is a liar. I have an eyewitness who stood some meters away. He saw everything for himself” – NADMO.
They also stated that a committee is to be set to investigate the explosives whether they are in line with the regulations.
“We will also institute a committee to investigate the explosives, whether or not they comply with the Minerals and Mining Explosives Regulations LI 2177, Section 107 and 95.” They added.
