Mr Kwasi Amoako-Atta, the Minister of Roads and Highways, has spoken out for the first time about how and why he referred outspoken government critic Captain Smart to the Ghana Police Service’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in August 2021.
According to him, he anticipates the prosecution of a case in which the CID recently indicated that they had proof that Blessed Godsbrain Smart, also known as Captain Smart, allegedly “took a bribe” in order to bribe him [the Minister].
On Wednesday, January 19, 2022, Amoako-Attah revealed for the first time in a radio interview on Accra-based Oman FM that he was notified of the attempted bribery claim, which was initially made on NET 2TV.
He revealed that he demanded the video of the alleged allegation before instructing his lawyers to make a formal complaint against the journalist.
Amoako-Attah claimed that he was reacting to the problem for the first time because the CID had concluded preliminary investigations and considered that filing charges would be appropriate.
“I directed my lawyers to approach the right quarters, CID headquarters, for the truth to be examined as to whether she truly paid the bribe to Captain Smart and whether or not it was transmitted to me, because the woman’s story was made on-air and remained an allegation.”
