It is constantly becoming a battle for only the valiant and the strong countries as the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2022) being held at Cameroon is getting harder and harder for the senior national team, the Black Stars of Ghana after they drew with the Gabon national team yesterday.
Andre Dede Ayew scored a very impressive goal for the Black Stars, however the goal was conceded by the Gabonese before the game ended. Reactions from Ghanaians indicate that only a player who is fit to the standard of Ghana’s all-time goal scorer and former captain, Asamoah Gyan can lead the team to realize its target.
Sports analysts and majority of Ghanaians expressed disappointment in the Black Stars for their inability to have a resounding victory in the games they have played so far. Whilst some have already given up on hope, some remain confident and optimistic that the Black Stars can still qualify to the next stage of the ongoing competition if they can have a rethink of their front line.
“When things like these are happening, only one player comes to mind and that one player is the top goal scorer in the history of Ghana’s football, Asamoah Gyan who most people believed couldn’t do well enough. We are optimistic that if someone like Asamoah Gyan is brought into the team, he is sure to be the great game changer,” some reactions indicated.
Some people are also of the view that one of the reasons why Coach Milovan Rajevac performed outstandingly well in his last management of the Black Stars was because of the kind of players that were available in the team at the time. Stephen Appiah, Michael Essien, Asamoah Gyan, Suley Ali Muntari, Kevin Prince Boateng, John Mensah, Kwadjow Asamoah, Dede Ayew, John Painstil, to mention but a few who were zealous and passionate for football.
So the big question is who can play and score like Asamoah Gyan in the current squad? As we are all aware, Dede Ayew and his brother Jordan Ayew forward position is far below Asamoah Gyan’s standard. Meanwhile, they arguably remain the best players in the team and the ones with the highest goal scoring record.
