All eyes are on the NPP flagbearer race. This is expected to be one to be keenly contested. Though nominations and campaigns are yet to be opened, many of the contestants are gearing up with posters and secret campaigns. About 5 personalities have showed interest in contesting for the right to lead the ruling New Patriotic Party in the 2024 elections.
Alan Kyerematen, Industry and Trade Minister and Vice President Bawumia are the lead candidates vying for the spot. On Alhaji and Alhaji today, Saturday, January 15, 2022 Philip Longdon, an NPP Communications Team member declined to speak about the NPP flagbearer race. He noted that there is no rancor in the party with assurances that the party will produce a winning candidate.
In less than 5 minutes he had finished his delivery and next to speak after him was Dr. Tony Aidoo. This is the first appearance in over 6 years for the learned former ambassador on the show. Tony Aidoo spoke about the confusion in the camp of the NPP. He noted that already the 2 leading candidates are trying to use money to influence delegates to vote for them. He lambasted Alan Kyerematen and Bawumia and noted that they were not fit to be president because of their mismanagement.
Apparently, this didn’t please Philip Longdon who kept interrupting the show and called on the discussion on the flagbearer race to be discontinued. The host told him that he had his chance and decided not to speak so he should allow others. However, Philip wasn’t still convinced and tried to interject leading to another panelist and veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt to quiet him down.
“You are interrupting the show. Write your comments in the fat notebook beside you. That is why it is by you. We beg you” Kwesi Pratt said.
