Finding white collar jobs in our country today has become more competitive than ever. The government sector barely employs workers whiles most private institutions are ready to employ as many workers as they can but are unable to compensate workers to their satisfaction aside the stress that comes with the job. It is known in this country that most government workers are paid well, except for the education, health and other sectors.
On the other hand only a few of the private owned companies pay their workers well, like the mines and a few others. This has caused the unemployment rate in Ghana to rise and it is quite alarming. Suggestions have been made for the government to support private enterprises so they can employ more people with good salary structure. Currently, UTAG is on strike because they feel they are being treated unfairly and that the sitting government is expected to pay certain due benefits to them.
Even though their strike has been described as unconstitutional and have been threatened on account of that as they stand a higher chance of losing their jobs if they don’t resume and surprisingly they are not ready to resume if their issues are not addressed. This shows that employees are not willing to stay on a job that pays less but drains them.
This is a story of an employer who lost an employee because he refused to raise the salary of his worker when he requested for it. Unfortunately for the employer, the employee decided to quit but it has gotten to a point he needs the employee urgently and doesn’t know what to do to get the employee in question to come back.
He needs a candid advice on what to do. This story is quite brief but it talks about how some employees are a great resource as they help companies achieve targets and more but due to the greedy nature of some employers, they refuse to do the needful. The employee really took a bold decision in leaving as he can now redefine contract terms with the employer if he chooses to return.
What advice will you offer the employer? Let’s hear from you in the comment section below.
